Sinossi

Written in the form of a conversation with himself, Michael Frensch addresses and answers essential questions about Valentin Tomberg's individuality, work and impact on the 20th century. This helps to clarify many of the misconceptions and misunderstandings about Tomberg. He starts by describing the life experiences arising from his encounter with the life and the work of Valentin Tomberg and how this shaped his destiny. He recounts the circumstances that led him to translate the Meditations of the Tarot from French into German, and the way this affected his life.

This collection of memoirs walks the reader through the experiences of a child growing up in Omaha, Nebraska in the 1950s. Her young life in Cathedral parish centers around church, school, and neighborhood whose ever-widening perimeters became her arena of learning, mischief, and play. School stories began with the bewilderment of a five-year-old, meeting for the first time a traditionally dressed Dominican sister, her first-grade teacher. Then through other stories with a child's vision, we see the education she received, activities in which she participated, and the people surrounding her in her twelve years at Saint Cecilia's Grade School and Cathedral High School. Her stories also visit places that no longer exist, like Peony Park, Aksarben, Blackburn Pharmacy and even, sadly enough, our Cathedral High School. Although these places no longer exist, visiting them again will show you how special they were, and how much fun they brought to young lives. The real stars of these memoirs are the people that made them memorable. Usually identified only with their initials, they bring forth stories that were fun to revisit. Each person was one component in the development of a young life so different from those growing up in the twenty-first century. The all-important family, the class of thirty-five first graders that grew to 111 high school graduates, the sisters and priests that gave their lives to their God, and to their students were all important pieces in the development of this Catholic Girl in the '50s. Mary Ellen Kauth Olsson (AKA Baba Herk) is a wife, mother of four, and grandmother of one and a retired alternative educator with a BA in English and history from Duchesne College and an MS degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She has written stories and poems throughout her seventy-seven years, but writing her memories for the Echo section of the "Cathedral Chimes" and the desire to share her family stories with her grandson developed this...

Written while she was still a teenager, My Brilliant Career catapulted young Stella Maria Sarah Miles Franklin (writing as Miles Franklin) into worldwide fame. In fact, the sudden popularity of the book in Australia (and the perceived closeness of the plot to her own family history) caused Franklin to withdraw the book from publication until after her death.
The story centers on Sybylla Melvyn, a headstrong girl growing up in rural Australia whose family is plunged into debt by their alcoholic father. Young Sybylla's story follows her romance with suitor Harold Beecham, her forced servitude to one of her father's creditors and her attempts to become a famous writer.
Long hailed as one of the most popular and celebrated works in Australian literary history, My Brilliant Career is presented here in its original and unabridged format.

James Douglas Morrison was an American singer, poet, and songwriter who was the lead vocalist of the rock band the Doors. Due to his wild personality, poetic lyrics, distinctive voice, unpredictable and erratic performances, and the dramatic circumstances surrounding his life and early death, Morrison is regarded by music critics and fans as one of the most iconic and influential frontmen in rock history. Since his death, his fame has endured as one of the popular culture's most rebellious and oft-displayed icons, representing the generation gap and youth counterculture.

Together with pianist Ray Manzarek, Morrison founded the Doors in 1965 in Venice, California. The group spent two years in obscurity until shooting to prominence with their number-one single in the United States, "Light My Fire", taken from their self-titled debut album. Morrison recorded a total of six studio albums with the Doors, all of which sold well and received critical acclaim. Morrison was well known for improvising spoken word poetry passages while the band played live. Manzarek said Morrison "embodied hippie counterculture rebellion".

Morrison developed an alcohol dependency throughout the band's career, which at times affected his performances on stage. In 1971, Morrison died unexpectedly in Paris at the age of 27, amid conflicting witness reports. His premature death made him a member of the infamous 27 club. Since no autopsy was performed, the cause of Morrison's death remains disputed.

Kristoffer Kristofferson is a retired American singer, songwriter, and actor. Among his songwriting credits are "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night", all of which were hits for other artists.
