Sinossi

"Weapons of War" explores how technology has continually reshaped military history and modern warfare. The book examines the evolution of weapons technology, from early firearms to today's autonomous systems, highlighting how these advancements dramatically influence military strategy and geopolitics. One key insight is how technological innovation, such as the development of precision firearms, has consistently altered the balance of power and forced societies to adapt. The book approaches this complex topic by providing essential background on the physics of ballistics and the engineering behind weapon design, making it accessible to non-experts. It emphasizes the progression of firearms, the rise of mechanized warfare through tanks and aircraft, and the emergence of drones and AI in warfare. Organized into three parts, the book first introduces basic weapon principles, then examines the Industrial Revolution's impact, and concludes with an analysis of 20th and 21st-century advancements, including nuclear weapons and arms control.

This book consists of two titles:Mughal Empire - The Mughal Empire, also referred to as the Mogul or Moghul Empire, was one of the most powerful and influential early modern Islamic empires in South Asia. Established in the 16th century, it controlled vast regions for over two centuries, encompassing territories from the peripheries of the Indus basin in the west, extending to northern Afghanistan, Kashmir in the north, present-day Bangladesh in the east, and stretching as far south as the Deccan Plateau's uplands.Taj Mahal - The Taj Mahal stands as a breathtaking testament to Indo-Islamic architecture, celebrated as one of the most exquisite examples of this style in the world. Its origins are steeped in the emotional backdrop of its commission, reflecting the rich culture and history of the Mughal Empire, which wielded power over vast regions of India during the 16th and 17th centuries. The monument was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died during childbirth in 1631. Her passing left an indelible mark on the emperor, inspiring him to create a monument that would embody his love and devotion.

But now, about to turn forty and returning to his small midlands hometown, Scobie is back in his childhood bed, single, burnt out and depressed. The life he thought he had left behind has moved on – but has he?
Going Back, Eugene O'Brien's heartwarming debut novel, continues the story of hit TV series Pure Mule, capturing the whole world in one Irish town: the highs and the lows, from addiction and mental-health issues to love and redemption.
It will take some time and a lot of soul-searching, but maybe Scobie Donoghue is finally ready to grow up.
'I was delighted to get reacquainted with Scobie Donoghue. This is a timely book, engaging and entertaining. It lifts the lid on and exposes the underbelly of the disenfranchised in a community that has been pulled apart since the heady days of the Celtic Tiger.' Liz Nugent

The waters of the Pacific Ocean – stretching deep blue under the tropical sun, or scourged by typhoons – provided World War II's most far-flung battlefield. Two of the world's premier mid 20th century maritime powers, the United States of American and the Empire of Japan, grappled for supremacy across that vast expanse.
Although not as well-remembered as D-Day or even the attack at Pearl Harbor that preceded it, the Battle of Midway was one of the most unique and important battles fought during World War II. In fact, the turning point in the Pacific theater took place between June 4-7, 1942 as a Japanese fleet moved a sizable fleet intending to occupy Midway Island and draw the American navy near. Instead, American aircraft flying from three aircraft carriers that had been away from Pearl Harbor in December 1941 got a bearing on the Japanese fleet and sunk four Japanese aircraft carriers, permanently crippling Japan’s navy. The Battle of Midway was one of the first major naval battles in history where the enemy fleets never actually saw or came into contact with each other.
By the time the Battle of Midway was over, the defeat was so devastating that it was actually kept secret from all but the highest echelons of the Japanese government. Along with the loss of hundreds of aircraft and over 3,000 men killed, the four Japanese aircraft carriers lost, when compared to America’s one lost carrier, was critical considering America’s huge shipbuilding superiority. However, the Battle of Midway could also have easily turned out differently.
