Nicholson's literary craftsmanship illuminates how societal expectations shape personal aesthetics, creating a compelling discourse around authenticity and the human experience in a rapidly changing world. Meredith Nicholson, a prominent figure of the early 1900s, was deeply influenced by the social dynamics of his time, which may have led him to articulate the significance of style in self-perception and social interaction. His background in journalism and politics informs his nuanced perspectives, while his engagement with the literary community situates him as a key voice in the dialogue about American identity. Nicholson's understanding of societal craftsmanship and its impact on personal narratives enriches this work. The self-admitted author of The Chemical Marriage, Johann Valentin Andreæ, born in Württemberg in 1586, was twenty-eight years of age when that work was first published. It was presumably written about twelve years prior to its publication--or when the author was fifteen or sixteen years old. The fact is almost incredible that one so young could produce a volume containing the wealth of symbolic thought and philosophy hidden between the lines of The Chemical Marriage. This book makes the earliest known reference to Christian Rosencreutz, and is generally regarded as the third of the series of original Rosicrucian manifestoes. As a symbolic work, the book itself is hopelessly irreconcilable with the statements made by Andreæ concerning it. The story of The Chemical Marriage relates in detail a series of incidents occurring to an aged man, presumably the Father C.R.C. of the Fama and Confessio. If Father C.R.C. was born in 1378, as stated in the Confessio, and is identical with the Christian Rosencreutz of The Chemical Marriage, he was elevated to the dignity of a Knight of the Golden Stone in the eighty-first year of his life (1459). In the light of his own statements, it is inconceivable that Andreæ could have been Father Rosy Cross.

The Afterlife of Byzantium traces the final centuries of the Byzantine Empire from the Palaiologan restoration to the fall of Constantinople—and follows its astonishing afterlife far beyond 1453. Through nine richly detailed chapters culminating in a study of legacy and memory, this volume reveals how an empire under pressure reinvented itself through faith, diplomacy, art, scholarship, and everyday resilience. Readers encounter the return to Constantinople in 1261, the fraying frontiers of the Balkans and Anatolia, the mystical power of Hesychasm, the resourceful brilliance of Palaiologan art, the hard math of a late economy, and the fine-edged craft of survival diplomacy. The ascent of the Ottomans and the last defense of 1453 are narrated alongside the intimate human experiences of merchants, monks, mothers, and envoys.
Beyond the walls, the book follows Byzantium’s legacy into Ottoman institutions, Orthodox worship, Venetian print shops, Cretan ateliers, Muscovite courts, and the domestic rituals that carried memory forward. It shows how Byzantine law, liturgy, education, iconography, and political imagination shaped communities for centuries, from the Phanar’s salons to Athonite scriptoria, from market stalls to imperial chancelleries. Written in an informative, humanized, and professional voice, this is a story of continuity through change—a portrait of how an empire’s culture outlived its sovereignty and continued to teach the world how to endure with dignity.

  • American Carnage - Shattering the Myths That Fuel Gun Violence - cover

    American Carnage - Shattering...

Fred Guttenberg, who lost his beloved daughter Jaime in the 2018 Parkland school shooting, and international gun policy consultant Thomas Gabor team up in American Carnage to dismantle some of the most common myths about guns and gun violence.

A national disgrace. Over 40,000 die each year as a result of gun violence in America. Gun law reforms could reduce the number of gun deaths per year, but many political challenges stand in the way. A widespread multi-year misinformation campaign and assault on truth by the gun lobby and gun-extremists sows doubt about the dangers posed by pervasive gun ownership and gun carrying, as well as the potential effectiveness of gun laws.

Debunking popular gun myths. Countering with strong evidence-based research the many slogans and myths repeated incessantly by spokespersons for the gun lobby and its surrogates is essential if we are to have a society in which kids can attend school safely and people can work and enjoy life without fear of being shot. Over the last thirty years, the NRA's campaign to achieve an armed society has succeeded in persuading many Americans that having a gun in the home or carrying a gun makes them safer. The evidence is overwhelming this is not the case. Tackling this and other myths is critical.

You Shall Be as Gods - Pagans...

Our country doesn't have a partisan problem, a political problem, a social problem, or an economic problem. We have a spiritual problem.

As Christianity has been pushed aside, the Progressive Left has developed a new pagan religion. But the radical roots of the new secular religion are ancient. We've seen it all before. In You Shall Be as Gods, Erick Erickson traces the religion's roots from Paganism and Gnosticism through the Age of Enlightenment all the way into the Postmodernism of the twenty-first century. At the heart of the ancient religion is a self-centered culture.

The Christian church today has been weakened by compromising with the neo-pagan religion, leaving the faithful ill-prepared to counter the claims of society's present-day doctrine. Yet there remains a significant remnant in America that refuses to bow to the rising belief system.

Just as in Rome and countless societies throughout history, the religions present two opposing stories of reality which necessitates conflict. In an era where the "Christian thing" to do seems to be to go along and get along, Erickson makes clear that the two cultures cannot peacefully coexist and calls the listener to speak the truth in love.
