Sinossi

From the Ghostbusters HQ in New York to Nemo's fish tank in Sydney, from the Phantom of the Opera's Parisian lair to scenes from Grand Theft Auto in LA, this is an amazing atlas of imaginary locations in real-life cities around the world. Locations from film, TV, books, computer games and comics are ingeniously plotted on a series of beautiful vintage-looking maps.
Feauturing 14 of the world's greatest cities, the maps show exactly where your favourite characters lived, loved, worked and played, and where iconic scenes took place. The locations have been painstakingly tracked down, mapped, annotated and wittily divulged by the authors, and an extensive index helps you find them all. Within the pages of this book, you'll discover:
• Where in London super-spies James Bond and George Smiley are neighbours.
• The route of the exciting San Francisco car chase in Bullitt.
• The Tokyo homes of all the magical girls from the classic Sailor Moon anime.
And many more fascinating locations drawn from the world's imagination.
Accompanying the maps are illuminating essays that explain how the authors came to their decisions, along with explorations of the key locations and fun timelines of imaginary events. Find out how to get to Sesame Street, where to join Starfleet and thousands of other places besides, in this indispensable guidebook to all those places you always wanted to visit – if only they were real.

By mid-1943, British leaders, particularly Churchill, believed that while the defeat of Germany and Italy were important, victory should not be achieved at the expense of ceding control of post-war Europe to the Soviets. What went unsaid was that Churchill’s goal was British control over the Mediterranean, and his insistence on using Allied resources in the Mediterranean and working to block Russian gains even while the war was still in progress caused some of the most vituperative exchanges between Britain and America. At one point, Churchill even began to actively consider pursuing the war in the Mediterranean independently and without American support. The Chief of the British Imperial General Staff General Sir Alan Brooke, normally one of Churchill’s most ardent supporters, became concerned that his obsession with the Mediterranean was driving the prime minister beyond rational action: “I am slowly becoming convinced that in his old age Winston is becoming less and less well balanced!"[1]
Nowhere were these differences more clearly exposed than during the Dodecanese Campaign, a British attempt to seize islands in the Aegean during the fall and winter of 1943. The campaign in the Aegean brought Anglo-American relations to their lowest point during the war, with the British feeling let down and perhaps even betrayed by their American allies, while the Americans believed the Aegean was relatively unimportant in the overall strategic context of the war and a potential drain on resources that would be better used elsewhere. The Dodecanese Campaign was the tragic outcome of the fundamental differences of opinion and approach between allies who otherwise worked closely and in harmony, and though nobody knew it at the time, it marked one of the last major victories for German forces who had been forced to retreat in every other theater of operations.

Each generation has more childfree women than the one before. For many, it is an active decision made for a wide range of reasons. Despite this growing trend, we continue to live in a society where women are often judged for deciding to remain childfree - for not conforming to narrow expectations. For being a Harpy.

In this timely and thoughtful book, Caroline Magennis looks beyond the often-divisive conversation around women who choose to be childfree and offers an alternative message of hope and celebration. With humour and intelligence, she explores why motherhood isn't right for everybody and how any woman - whether a parent or childfree - can live a full life, while also reminding the reader that your freedoms and the right to autonomy should never be taken for granted.

    War Crimes - Accountability and...

War crimes represent some of the most heinous acts of violence committed during conflict, violating the basic principles of humanity and decency. These crimes, which range from genocide to the targeting of civilians, are not only devastating to the victims but also to the social fabric of entire societies. Over the centuries, the world has witnessed numerous atrocities during wartime, but the formal recognition and prosecution of these crimes have evolved significantly, especially in the last century.

The need for accountability in the face of war crimes is critical. It is not only about bringing perpetrators to justice but also about establishing a global standard that deters such crimes in the future. The introduction of international laws and institutions aimed at prosecuting war crimes marks a pivotal shift in the international community's approach to warfare. The atrocities committed during World War II, particularly the Holocaust and other acts of genocide, were a wake-up call for the global community. This led to the creation of the Nuremberg Trials, the first real attempt to hold individuals accountable for war crimes, and set the foundation for modern international law.

The purpose of this book is to explore the concept of war crimes, the historical development of international law designed to address such crimes, and the ongoing challenges of prosecuting these atrocities. We will examine the evolution of legal frameworks, such as the Geneva Conventions and the establishment of the International Criminal Court, and discuss how these institutions work to hold individuals and states accountable for their actions during wartime.

Confronting taboos and misunderstandings about sexuality and aging, Couple Sexuality After 60: Intimate, Pleasurable, and Satisfying motivates couples to embrace sex and sexuality in their sixties, seventies, and eighties. The book busts two extreme myths—that people over sixty cannot and should not be sexual, and that the best way to be sexual is to emphasize eroticism, using sex toys, and "kinky sex."

Using a variable, flexible approach to couple sexuality based on the Good Enough Sex (GES) model, this book places the essence of sexuality in pleasure-oriented touching, not individual sex performance. Barry and Emily McCarthy introduce a new sexual mantra of "desire/pleasure/eroticism/satisfaction" with the goal of presenting a healthy model of sexuality to replace the traditional double standard that couples learn in young adulthood. Specific chapters focus on important areas like coming to terms with the new normal, female–male sexual equity, satisfaction being about more than intercourse and orgasm, valuing synchronous and asynchronous sexuality, psychobiosocial approaches to sexuality, and more.

In addition to aging heterosexual couples, single individuals and queer couples will find this book interesting. Additionally, this is a must-listen for sexual health clinicians and sex therapists with clients over the age of sixty.
