Sinopse

First serialized in 1907 and then published as a book in 1908, Mary Roberts Rinehart's The Circular Staircase is the popular mystery story about the dowager Rachel Innes as she reveals and prevents a series of strange crimes at the home she has rented for the summer. The Circular Staircase was Rinehart's first bestseller and was the originator of the popular "had I but known" genre of mystery writing, where the main character narrates the tale and foreshadows impending doom and tragedy while reflecting on what they might have done differently if only they had known what was to come. Rinehart was inspired to write this tale after visiting a Gothic revival castle in Virginia and sets her story in a similarly mysterious old house in the country. The main character, Rachel, is an older woman who has raised her niece and nephew, who are now adults and have convinced her to leave her city home behind for the summer and vacation with them in the country. What follows is a masterfully written and suspenseful tale of murder, arson, kidnapping, and mysterious intruders sneaking about in the night that continues to thrill readers over a century later.

***** Readers LOVE TO HATE the Morlands! *****
“I now feel like I need a bath and a long lie down…”
“If ever there was a warning not to do drugs, this novel is it”
"What in the Saltburn did I just read?"
“A master class in family dysfunction”
“Oh my God what in the what?”
"Gloriously deranged. And yes, the goat absolutely steals the show"
The disgustingly rich and grossly dysfunctional Morland siblings are throwing one of their infamous parties, before it's decided which one of them will take over their ancestral family home. Despite their rivalry, Kassie, Caitlin, Paul and Steven are determined it's going to be a night to remember.
But by the morning, one of their guests isn't just hungover: they're dead.
The Morlands each have a motive, and they all have dubious morals. But which of them is actually a murderer?
While all of them suspect the others, the siblings face a choice: call the police (but risk investigation into their other illegal dealings) or work together to hide the body in the wine cellar. They choose badly.
Unfortunately, teamwork doesn't come naturally to this family. With Grandma on her way and the inheritance decision looming, old traumas re-surface and new threats start to claw their way out of the shadows…
Who will survive until the afterparty?

This is the third book of INVERSION, a contemporary, speculative science fiction/military saga.
After successfully negotiating for the freedom of her people, Taunia has become a thriving and dynamic nation. This left Angela both joyful and confounded. On a basic level, she had worked herself out of the job she was born for—a hardened soldier who had felt life draining from her enemies through the space between her fingers. Deployed as an administrator and diplomat operating internationally held no appeal. Leading a society that is the envy of all nations, and armed with unmatched scientific and military technology, Angela secretly wonders from what direction the next attack will come. The first effort to destroy them had failed. But will the next? The way forward has never been more perilous.
