Sinossi

In "The Crock of Gold," Martin Farquhar Tupper weaves a rich tapestry of verse and philosophy, exploring themes of wealth, moral integrity, and the human condition. This narrative poem, characterized by its allegorical style, reflects the moral dilemmas of Victorian society, encapsulated in the struggle between material greed and spiritual fulfilment. Tupper employs a lyrical, almost melodic tone, inviting readers into a whimsical yet critical examination of the human pursuit of happiness and the elusive nature of true wealth, which often transcends mere gold. Martin Farquhar Tupper, a prominent figure in Victorian literature, was deeply influenced by his own experiences as a poet and philosopher. His commitment to moral integrity and social commentary arguably stemmed from his background in medicine and his interactions with various intellectual circles of the time. Tupper's writings often illustrate a quest for meaning and ethical consciousness, reflecting the Victorian struggle to reconcile progress with moral values, a tension that permeates "The Crock of Gold." This book is highly recommended for readers interested in Victorian literature, morality, and the philosophical quandaries that arise in the pursuit of happiness. Tupper's enchanting verse not only provides an absorbing reading experience but also prompts profound contemplation about the essence of wealth and the true treasures of life.

Welcome to My Life: The Sitcom, featuring the panderings and ponderings of Yours Truly, Chadd Wheat.

Believe it or not, many of you have actually asked for this book. I don't know if you intend on using it for the bottom of the birdcage, evidence in impending legal actions, or simply as a guide to living frivolously. Whatever the case, I hope you enjoy it.

I started writing My Life: The Sitcom in 2002. Most of my articles, as published in The Lebanon Reporter and elsewhere, are my direct observations on the craziness that surrounds my life. Nearly all the events contained herein are actually true, with the names sometimes changed to protect the ignorant.

People often ask me where I get the inspiration to write my ludicrous columns. After rubbing my chin and looking sage, I usually say something like, "by consuming too much reality television, caffeine and other borderline hallucinogens.

Ha, ha! Just kidding, local law enforcement! As a matter of fact, I never watch reality television!

Don’t get us wrong: Butterfly Goo won’t create the change you’re looking for. Only you can do that. But it just might inspire you to step into the mess of your own transformative journey. After all, as Burr found out, you have to go through the goo before you can spread your wings.

The Danger of Lying in Bed

In The Danger of Lying in Bed, Mark Twain delivers one of his signature satirical essays—witty, irreverent, and surprisingly insightful. What begins as a commentary on the perils of travel insurance quickly becomes a biting observation on human fear, misplaced caution, and the absurdity of trying to avoid life’s dangers.
Twain’s narrator mocks the tendency of people to avoid risky adventures—like rail travel—while ignoring the very real dangers that await them in the “safety” of their own bedrooms. With his trademark humor and a touch of morbid irony, Twain reminds us that death can come for anyone, anywhere… so we might as well live boldly.
Perfect for fans of dry wit, sharp social commentary, and timeless humor, this short essay remains hilariously relevant more than a century after it was written.

    ""Magnificent."" —People Magazine
The instant New York Times bestseller: Laugh-out-loud, deeply insightful, and emotion-filled essays from multitalented actress, comedian, podcaster, and writer Casey Wilson.
Casey Wilson has a lot on her mind and she isn’t afraid to share. In this dazzling collection, each essay skillfully constructed and brimming with emotion, she shares her thoughts on the joys and vagaries of modern-day womanhood and motherhood, introduces the not-quite-typical family that made her who she is, and persuasively argues that lowbrow pop culture is the perfect lens through which to examine human nature.
Whether she’s extolling the virtues of eating in bed, processing the humiliation over her father’s late in life perm, mourning her mother's passing, or revealing her patented method for keeping the mystery alive in a marriage, Casey is witty, candid, and full of poignant and funny surprises. Humorous dives into her obsessions and areas of personal expertise—self-help, nice guys, cool girls (not her) and how to receive visitors in the bath—are matched by touching meditations on female friendship, anger, grief, motherhood, and identity.
Reading The Wreckage of My Presence is like spending time with a close friend—a deeply passionate, full-tilt, joyous, excessive, compulsive, shameless, hungry-for-it-all, loyal, cheerleading friend. A friend who is ready for any big feelings that come her way—and isn’t afraid to embrace them.
