Sinossi

Emotional Eating explores the complex relationship between emotions and eating behaviors, offering readers strategies to understand and overcome this cycle. It emphasizes that emotional eating is often a learned behavior, not a lack of willpower, and highlights the role of societal factors like stress and readily available processed foods. By understanding the emotional triggers and psychological roots of emotional eating, individuals can develop healthier coping mechanisms and improve their overall well-being.

The book progresses from defining emotional eating and differentiating it from genuine hunger to exploring the psychological and physiological factors involved. It delves into common emotional triggers, such as stress and anxiety, offering practical strategies, including mindfulness and stress-reduction techniques.

Drawing on research in psychology, nutrition, and behavioral science, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), the book provides a comprehensive toolkit for managing emotions without resorting to food. This self-help guide distinguishes itself by providing a step-by-step approach, tailored to individual needs, for understanding and overcoming emotional eating. Rather than focusing solely on the problem, it offers actionable advice that readers can apply in their daily lives to cultivate a healthier relationship with food and their emotions, ultimately breaking free from negative eating behaviors.

On November 29, 1943, as the Allies’ primary leaders met in Tehran, Roosevelt described to Stalin his idea for the organization that would become the United Nations. The American president suggested that the active arm of the organization be “the Four Policemen”: the U.S., USSR, UK, and China. Stalin agreed with much of the framework in principle, but asserted that China likely would not possess the strength after the war to assist. He also noted that the “Policemen” must hold a series of strong points, putting Germany and Japan at too much of a disadvantage to attempt military adventurism again. Roosevelt, eager to please his “friend,” agreed with everything Stalin said.
That exchange might be considered the origin of the United Nations, one of the most famous bodies in the world, but the concept was already in existence in the form of its predecessor, the League of Nations. At the end of World War I, President Woodrow Wilson's pleas at the Paris Peace Conference relied on his Fourteen Points, which included the establishment of a League of Nations, but while his points were mostly popular amongst Americans and Europeans alike, leaders at the conference largely discarded them and favored different approaches. British leaders saw their singular aim as the maintenance of British colonial possessions. France, meanwhile, only wanted to ensure that Germany was weakened and unable to wage war again, and it too had colonial interests abroad that it hoped to maintain. Britain and France thus saw eye-to-eye, with both wanting a weaker Germany and both wanting to maintain their colonies. Wilson, however, wanted both countries to rid themselves of their colonies, and he wanted Germany to maintain its self-determination and right to self-defense. Wilson totally opposed the “war guilt” clause, which blamed the war on Germany.

There is an elite group that control the world. They run governments, companies and religions. They have done so for a very long time.

Their names have changed, their faces altered but their bloodlines remain the same.

We see glimpses of their power. We see the outcomes of their plots and schemes. We see revolutions and war. We succumb to their propaganda and manipulation again and again. Most have no idea that they are under the spell.

In the 18th century they emerged briefly into the spotlight to bring about world-wide cataclysmic change and they called themselves the Illuminati.

Quickly they spread and embedded themselves and their ideals within other secret societies. The French had a bloody revolution. America turned the tide against a royal regime. Russia, Spain and more, all fell to the zeal of a new world order.

This is the story of the world's most powerful secret and sacred order.

The ancient Greeks have long been considered the forefathers of modern Western civilization, but the Golden Age of Athens and the spread of Greek influence across much of the known world only occurred due to one of the most crucial battles of antiquity: the Battle of Marathon. The Battle of Marathon proved to be one of the biggest sources of enmity between the Greeks and Persians, and Darius’s son Xerxes would seek to undo the results with his own invasion just years later. As it was, the rivalry between the Greeks and Persians would last for over 150 years and culminated with Alexander the Great’s destruction of the Achaemenid Persian capital city of Persepolis.
Although the Romans gained the upper hand over Carthage in the wake of the First Punic War, the legendary Carthaginian general Hannibal brought the Romans to their knees for over a decade during the Second Punic War. While military historians are still amazed that he was able to maintain his army in Italy near Rome for nearly 15 years, scholars are still puzzled over some of his decisions, including why he never attempted to march on Rome in the first place. Regardless, Hannibal was such a threat that the Romans responded in an unprecedented nature when the Carthaginians resumed the campaigning season in the spring of 216 B.C. by capturing the city of Cannae. Cannae is still considered one of the greatest tactical victories in the history of warfare, and the fact the battle was a complete victory resulting in the wholesale annihilation of the enemy army made it the textbook example for military commanders to try to duplicate. Of course, others usually were unsuccessful. Cannae was the kind of complete victory that every commander from Caesar to Frederick the Great to Napoleon to Robert E. Lee sought, and that few generals save Caesar and Napoleon bagged whole armies is a testament to the near impossibility of achieving a victory like Cannae.

Ernest Hemingway embraced adventure and courted glamorous friends while writing articles, novels, and short stories that captivated the world. Hemingway’s personal relationships and experiences influenced the content of his fiction, while the progression of places where the author chose to live and work shaped his style and rituals of writing. Whether revisiting the Italian front in A Farewell to Arms, recounting a Pamplona bull run in The Sun Also Rises, or depicting a Cuban fishing village in The Old Man and the Sea, setting played an important part in Hemingway’s fiction. The author also drew on real people—parents, friends, and fellow writers, among others—to create memorable characters in his short stories and novels. In Influencing Hemingway: The People and Places That Shaped His Life and Work Nancy W. Sindelar introduces the reader to the individuals who played significant roles in Hemingway’s development as both a man and as an artist—as well as the environments that had a profound impact on the a
