The show explores themes of social class, relationships, and identity in the high-class world of Newport Beach. The O.C. was a pop cultural phenomenon during its first season. The show was known for its music, which featured indie rock and guest performances. Ratings declined after the first season leading to its cancellation in 2007. The series had a mix of melodrama and comedy and utilized meta-fictional humor. 
    
  CURIOUS FACT SAMPLES: 
    
  The show's title, "O.C.", is an initialism for Orange County, the Southern California location where the series is set.
