Sinossi

In "The Stowaway Girl," Louis Tracy crafts a gripping narrative that intertwines elements of adventure and romance against the backdrop of early 20th-century maritime exploration. The novel features a strikingly well-developed protagonist, who, driven by an unquenchable thirst for freedom, disguises herself as a stowaway aboard a ship destined for the South Seas. Tracy'Äôs prose ebbs and flows with the cadence of the ocean, expertly painting vivid landscapes while subtly exploring themes of identity, class, and the burgeoning sense of feminine independence emerging in Victorian society. His keen eye for atmospheric detail complements the plot, drawing readers into the perilous journey that unfolds on the high seas. Louis Tracy, a novelist and journalist of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, possessed a profound affinity for travel and adventure, forged through his own experiences in various parts of the world. His fascination with the mysteries of distant lands and the complexities of human nature finds expression in this work, reflecting his own struggles with societal norms and expectations, particularly regarding women's roles. Readers are invited to embark on an enthralling expedition alongside a brave young woman whose quest for self-discovery and courage elevates this novel beyond mere adventure. "The Stowaway Girl" will captivate those who appreciate intricately plotted tales that deftly balance romantic tension with social commentary, solidifying Tracy's place as a significant voice in early 20th-century literature.

"Candide, or Optimism" is a satirical novella written by the French philosopher Voltaire, first published in 1759. It follows the adventures of the young Candide, who is raised in a utopian world and taught that “all is for the best.” The narrative takes him through a series of misfortunes, exposing him to the harsh realities of the world, ultimately leading him to question his optimistic beliefs. Voltaire uses Candide’s journey to satirize religion, governments, the military, and the philosophy of optimism, particularly as espoused by Leibniz. "Candide" is considered one of the greatest achievements of Western literature

A novel of army life in the calm before Pearl Harbor: A New York Times bestseller, a National Book Award winner, and “one of the great books of our time” (Newsday).  At the Pearl Harbor army base in 1941, Robert E. Lee Prewitt is Uncle Sam’s finest bugler. A career soldier with no patience for army politics, Prewitt becomes incensed when a commander’s favorite wins the title of First Bugler. His indignation results in a transfer to an infantry unit whose commander is less interested in preparing for war than he is in boxing. But when Prewitt refuses to join the company team, the commander and his sergeant decide to make the bugler’s life hell.    An American classic now available with scenes and dialogue considered unfit for publication in the 1950s, From Here to Eternity is a stirring picture of army life in the months leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. This ebook features an illustrated biography of James Jones including rare photos from the author’s estate.

There is something about the number 3.

The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.

Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.

Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.
