Medical genetics is the branch of medicine that focuses on the role of genetic variations in human health and disease. It encompasses the study of inherited disorders, genetic predisposition to diseases, and the application of genetics in medical practice. Understanding the fundamentals of medical genetics is crucial for diagnosing, treating, and preventing genetic conditions.
Genes, composed of DNA, serve as the blueprint for the development and functioning of the human body. DNA is organized into chromosomes, with humans typically having 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs. Of these, 22 pairs are autosomes, and one pair consists of sex chromosomes (XX in females and XY in males). Each parent contributes one chromosome per pair, ensuring genetic diversity.
Mutations, or changes in DNA sequences, play a key role in medical genetics. These mutations can be inherited or acquired and may lead to genetic disorders. Some mutations are benign, while others can disrupt normal biological functions, leading to conditions such as cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, and Huntington’s disease. Mutations can be classified into different types, including point mutations, insertions, deletions, and chromosomal abnormalities.

In "Three Dimensions of Learning," Nooks Teague offers a new enlightened approach to learning. It guides readers through the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual development of the child from life inside the womb to life in the school and provides tips that can help parents and educators recognize the symptoms that flag hidden disabilities. Hidden disabilities like vision dysfunction and sensory processing disorder can "make or break" a child's propensity to learn. Specific steps, illustrations, checklists, and exercises that parents and educators can use to empower the future of the child are included. Environmental and biological factors are identified with a clear explanation of how things like diet and even water affect the learning process. Strategies presented by Nooks Teague to help children self-regulate their emotions, as well as deal with issues concerning gender confusion, are included in this body of information.

M.L. Humphrey draws upon twenty years of experience with regulatory compliance, and AML compliance in particular, as both a regulator of broker-dealers and a consultant to some of the largest financial institutions in the world, to give an overview of the main AML compliance requirements, with a particular focus on customer identification and suspicious activity monitoring and reporting. This book is meant to be a high-level overview of AML compliance requirements, which means it focuses on the general concepts behind the regulations as opposed to any specific industry- or country-level regulations or any specific suspicious activity fact patterns. But the book should give a strong foundation for understanding those industry- or country-level requirements.

We broke our new series on learning Japanese down into different learning stages. Start with the "Lower Beginner" books followed by the "Beginner" and "Upper Beginner" books. Next, progress to the "Intermediate" series, then test and reinforce your knowledge with the "Conversations" series.
This audiobook is divided into units. While it provides different learning patterns and accommodates various needs, this audiobook focuses on helping you improve your ability to understand, speak, and memorise Japanese.
In Unit 1 you will hear Japanese decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said.
Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native Japanese speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand Japanese. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in Japanese at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken Japanese, Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences.
In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.
