  This project brings together stories from young people in the United Kingdom living with vision impairments, highlighting their experiences and challenges in transitioning through key life stages. Supported by the University of Bath and funded by Guide Dogs, the project was initiated by Dr. Karin Petrini and Dr. Michael Proulx, alongside Dr. Aikaterini Tavoulari, who brought both clinical and academic expertise.  
  The team collaborated with a diverse group of young people from across the UK, some with additional disabilities, who acted as co-researchers and played a key role in shaping the project's direction. After ten months of collaboration, they decided to create an audiobook, also available in print, to share their stories with a wide audience, including individuals with vision impairments, healthcare professionals, universities, and other stakeholders. 
  The audiobook features powerful, personal accounts of navigating life transitions, such as moving from childhood to adulthood, relocating to a new country, and transitioning to independent living. The stories highlight both the barriers these individuals faced and the support systems and tools that helped them overcome challenges.  
  Ultimately, the project aims to inspire, educate, and connect people, offering insights that could help others facing similar life transitions, while fostering greater understanding for those who engage with individuals with vision impairments.

  The Taisho Era (1912–1926) marked a period of transition in Japan, bridging the highly centralized and authoritarian rule of the Meiji period with the growing democratic movements that characterized the early 20th century. Emperor Taisho ascended to the throne following the death of Emperor Meiji in 1912. Unlike his predecessor, who had been a strong and active ruler, Emperor Taisho was frail and suffered from chronic illness, which significantly limited his ability to govern. As a result, political power gradually shifted away from the emperor and toward elected officials and political parties, paving the way for what would become known as "Taisho Democracy." 
  At the dawn of the Taisho Era, Japan stood at a crossroads between tradition and modernization. The country had rapidly industrialized during the Meiji period, transforming from a feudal society into a modern industrial state. However, with this modernization came social and political unrest. As Japan’s economy expanded, so too did the urban population, leading to the rise of a new middle class that demanded greater political participation and social change. The oligarchic rule of the genrō—elder statesmen who had dominated Meiji politics—faced increasing pressure from political parties, intellectuals, and the general public. 
  The political landscape of early Taisho Japan saw significant changes, including the growing influence of elected politicians. The 1912–1913 Taisho Political Crisis was a defining moment in this shift. When Prime Minister Saionji Kinmochi refused to increase military funding, the army resigned in protest, forcing him to step down. This led to widespread public outrage and a movement advocating for the power of elected officials over military and oligarchic influence. In 1913, the Katsura Tarō government collapsed due to public demonstrations, highlighting the rising political consciousness of the people.

  Environmental justice recognizes that environmental benefits and burdens should be distributed fairly, and that the people making policy decisions should incorporate the views of those most often harmed: people of color, Indigenous populations, low-income communities, and those who are underserved and disenfranchised for other reasons such as age, gender, or disability. It encompasses not only traditional environmental issues like clean air and clean water, but also social issues such as employment, nutrition, and access to health care. Although environmental justice is a relatively recent concept, it has become a focus of governmental environmental policy, UN actions, and the activities of many nongovernmental environmental organizations. Its development tracks our growing understanding of racism and wealth disparity in the United States and elsewhere, and of our understanding of inequality between the Global North and the Global South. In the era of climate change, climate justice is a particular focus.Environmental Justice: A Very Short Introduction defines the concept, identifies specific environmental justice populations, examines root causes, including racism, capitalism, and colonialism, and traces the history of the environmental justice movement and governmental responses to it. It concludes with suggestions for achieving this elusive goal.

  Psychological manipulation refers to the use of deceptive tactics to influence or control another person's thoughts, emotions, or behavior to achieve personal goals. Unlike straightforward persuasion, manipulation typically involves hidden motives and is often unethical in nature. It can be subtle and difficult to detect, as it operates through psychological pressure rather than overt force or coercion. Manipulators seek to gain an advantage by exploiting others' vulnerabilities, creating confusion, and leading them to make decisions that may not be in their best interest. 
  At the core of psychological manipulation lies the manipulator’s ability to control or influence another’s perception of reality. This is achieved by distorting facts, using emotional triggers, or intentionally withholding critical information. The manipulator may use charm, guilt, fear, or flattery to establish control, making it hard for the victim to recognize the manipulation until significant damage is done. This is particularly dangerous because it often leads to a breakdown of trust and can leave the victim feeling confused, powerless, and emotionally drained. 
  Manipulation can occur in any context—personal relationships, workplaces, politics, or media—and often involves a series of calculated tactics. In relationships, a manipulator might use emotional blackmail or gaslighting to make the victim doubt their own perceptions or question their reality. In business or politics, manipulation might involve misleading promises, biased narratives, or using people as pawns to achieve a specific agenda. Regardless of the setting, the manipulator’s objective is the same: to gain an advantage or achieve a goal without the other party’s full awareness or consent.
