Sinossi

We all want the power and motivation to create change in our lives. But how to get that in a stumbling dance of one step forward and two steps back? Negative emotions run rampant in many people’s lives today; a reality that feels like a shrink wrap of suffering. Popular fallback “solutions” of performance-based goals and tools focus on extrinsic rewards like fame, wealth, or winning. But overuse of those rewards doesn’t work for the long term and in fact weakens our confidence and motivation over time, leaving us vulnerable to failure and shame. It doesn’t have to be that way. Through three decades of researching and tracking such universal struggles to change our behavior, Dr. Kyra Bobinet unveils the way out, using novel neuroscience research on a compelling new brain area, the habenula. In this book, she reveals the habenula’s powerful role in killing our motivation and causing anxiety and depression and offers a foolproof way to escape its clutches.

As the government continues to trap black males into abnormal and senseless lives, black men are revolting against authority and common sense. They must be numb or dumb to the positive legacy their black leaders presented to them. Black-on-black crime is outrageous, and black men need to understand as long as they live, white Americans and this government are at war with them, and they have to readjust their thinking and fight together to defeat this racist system. America's plan is to disrupt black families so white men can take our black women and make white babies, while we are dead or in prison. America's plan does not have to be black America's plan, therefore we must love one another and save black families and black communities from a racist and Republican party takeover.

Fundraising events are designed to generate financial support by offering something in return to donors. Donors contribute not just out of goodwill but with the expectation of receiving a benefit or service in exchange. The nature of this exchange depends on the type of fundraising event organized.
For instance, a classic example is the car wash fundraiser, where donors pay for their cars to be cleaned as part of the event. Other popular types of fundraising include benefit dinners, performances, bake sales, auctions, and sporting events. Each of these events provides something of value in return for the contributions received. A contemporary example of this is the televised fundraiser, where celebrities encourage viewers to pledge donations, which are then deposited into designated accounts.

The pages of world history textbooks contain a litany of “lost” empires and civilizations, but usually, upon further review, it is revealed that these so called lost empires are often just lesser known cultures that had a less apparent impact on history than other more well-known civilizations. When one scours the pages of history for a civilization that was inexplicably lost, but had a great impact during its time, very few candidates can be found, but the Hittites are a notable example. In fact, the Hittites are an ancient people who remain somewhat enigmatic, and perhaps little known to most people, but their influence on the ancient Near East is undeniable. From high on their capital of Hattusa in central Anatolia, the Hittites were able to conquer and control a kingdom that roughly comprised the area of the modern nation-states of Turkey, Syria, and parts of Iraq and Lebanon.
Among the peoples of the ancient Near East, few are more misunderstood than the Scythians. The Scythians swept into Anatolia in the early first millennium BCE and left a large swath of destruction in their wake. They challenged old, strong, and venerable kingdoms such as the Assyrians, Egyptians, and Medes, until they were defeated by the Medes and then gradually disappeared into historical obscurity once more. According to the ancient Greek historian Herodotus, the Scythians ruled a large part of the Near East for nearly 30 years, but before they disappeared from the historical record, the Scythians greatly impacted the history of the Near East.
Of all the empires and kingdoms in the ancient world, few could compare with the Lydians in terms of wealth and opulence. From the early 7th century BCE until the middle of the 6th century BCE, the Lydians played an important role in the history of the eastern Mediterranean region as they took on the role of middleman between the empires of the Near East and the emerging Hellenic civilization in Greece.
