    Little Jack Horner sat in a corner,
    Eating a Christmas pie;
    He put in his thumb and pulled out a plum
    And said, "What a good boy am I!"
    LITTLE JACK HORNER lived in an old, tumble-down house at the edge of a big wood; and there many generations of Horners had lived before him, and had earned their living by chopping wood. Jack's father and mother were both dead, and he lived with his grandfather and grandmother, who took great pains to teach him all that a boy should know.
    They lived very comfortably and happily together until one day a great tree fell upon Grandpa Horner and crushed his legs; and from that time on he could not work at all, but had to be nursed and tended very carefully.
    This calamity was a great affliction to the Horners. Grandma Horner had a little money saved up in an old broken teapot that she kept in the cupboard, but that would not last them a great time, and when it was gone they would have nothing with which to buy food. But little Jack was a brave and hard working little lad who tried as best he could to help his grandparents earn a few pennies for food. Then, he rescued a stranger in a bog and their fortunes took a turn for the better. But you had best listen to the whole story to see why Jack had such a plum pie to eat that Christmas day!

    The story is an addition and expansion of the account of the Biblical Magi, recounted in the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament.[3] It tells about a "fourth" wise man (accepting the tradition that the Magi numbered three), a priest of the Magi named Artaban, one of the Medes from Persia. Like the other Magi, he sees signs in the heavens proclaiming that a King had been born among the Jews. Like them, he sets out to see the newborn ruler, carrying treasures to give as gifts to the child - a sapphire, a ruby, and a "pearl of great price". However, he stops along the way to help a dying man, which makes him late to meet with the caravan of the other three wise men. Because he missed the caravan, and he can't cross the desert with only a horse, he is forced to sell one of his treasures in order to buy the camels and supplies necessary for the trip. He then commences his journey but arrives in Bethlehem too late to see the child, whose parents have fled to Egypt. He saves the life of a child at the price of another of his treasures.

    This entrancing collection of Irish fairy folk will enchant young lovers of the mystical, the magical, and the occult.
    Watch for seal-skinned selkies coming to shore every ninth day to dance—but keep a safe distance, lest you become mesmerized. If you spy a fair mermaid combing her hair whilst sitting upon a rock, look away, as that could be bad luck indeed. And legend has it that just one encounter with the silver-tongued fairy known as the Charmer may leave a person lovesick and heartbroken. This gorgeous book offers illuminating introductions to fifteen remarkable fairies, the lesser-known heroes and villains of Irish folklore, from tiny leprechauns to enormous giants, trickster spirits to slippery shape-shifters.
    Stories inspired by tales from the Irish National Folklore Collection and a look at each fae’s traits and origins make this a keepsake collection and a gift to be treasured.

    Newbery Medal winner Erin Entrada Kelly’s alter ego—the effervescent Marisol Rainey—returns in this school story about overcoming stage fright and taking your turn that is just right for fans of Ramona, Clementine, and Ivy & Bean.
    Under normal circumstances, Marisol loves language arts class. Mrs. Ruby is her favorite teacher and always makes her feel special...until the day Mrs. Ruby makes a horrible, terrible, downright dreadful announcement: All the kids have to write their own haiku. As if that's not bad enough, they have to read their haiku in front of the whole class! Marisol would rather swim through a pack of jellyfish than get up in front of the whole class to read anything, much less a haiku.
    Maybe she can stay home sick. Maybe she can transfer schools. Maybe she can conjure a spell that makes her disappear.
    Or maybe, just maybe, she'll figure out a way to take her turn.
    Told in short chapters, this stand-alone addition to the Maybe Marisol series continues to uplift the small but mighty Marisol. Your Turn Marisol Rainey celebrates the joys of friendship, the triumph of overcoming fears, and the power of believing in yourself.
