Xuanzang mistakenly ran into seven spider demons in Silk Cave while looking for food. The monkey heard that the spider demons would bathe in a pool every day. He then transformed into an eagle to take away their clothes. Pigsy hit them but got stuck, and the demons fled. The monkey, Pigsy, and Sandy finally saved Xuanzang, and then they went to a Taoist temple owned by the Multiple-Eyed Monster, the brother of the spider demons. The demon disguised himself as a Taoist and offered the group poisoned tea. Xuanzang, Pigsy, and Sandy all drank the tea. The monkey got so angry that he killed the spider demons and fought the demon. The demon was hard to defeat because his belly had thousands of eyes emitting golden light. The monkey eventually defeated the demon with the help of Pilanpo Bodhisattva, and the demon turned into the original form, a centipede.

Daddles delightfully captures the innocence of childhood as a brother and sister fall in love with a plain hound dog during their summer vacations in Maine. Though owned by the “meanest, dirtiest and most shiftless family in Haddock Harbor,” the young siblings “adopt” Daddles for two glorious summers. The intelligent, endearing hound dog wins the hearts of all as he joins in with capturing a thief, escaping a house fire, and dodging trouble at a local circus. All dog lovers will warmly embrace this book that rekindles the memories of the tenderness only a child and dog can share. Author Ruth Sawyer, 1937 Newbery Medal recipient, penned her last book, Daddles, in 1964.

“Hlesdi!” Sissy yells. Quit it! Chooch bursts into tears. What follows is a tender family moment that will resonate with anyone who has welcomed a new little one to the fold. Chooch Helped is the story of an older sibling learning to make space for a new child, told with grace by Andrea L. Rogers and showing one Cherokee family immersing themselves in their cultural traditions.
