Sinossi

"The Bible Apostles" presents a groundbreaking examination of Jesus's twelve apostles through the lens of historical evidence and contemporary accounts, particularly focusing on the writings of first-century historian Flavius Josephus. This comprehensive study uniquely bridges biblical narratives with secular historical documentation, offering readers a fact-based analysis that draws from archaeological findings, ancient manuscripts, and the Dead Sea Scrolls to paint a complete picture of these influential early Christian leaders.

The book's three-part structure first establishes the historical context of first-century Palestine and the Roman Empire, providing essential background for understanding the apostles' world. It then delves into specific historical references found in non-biblical sources, with particular attention to Josephus's "Antiquities of the Jews" and "The Jewish War." The final section synthesizes biblical and historical accounts to create detailed profiles of each apostle, drawing connections between religious texts and secular historical records.

What sets this work apart is its systematic approach to combining multiple disciplines, including archaeology, ancient history, and religious studies, while maintaining scholarly rigor and accessibility. The book covers the period from 4 BCE to 100 CE, focusing on regions where the apostles were active and addressing controversial topics through careful analysis of available evidence. This objective examination provides readers with practical insights into historical research methodology while avoiding both skepticism and apologetics in favor of evidence-based investigation.

Ludwig Wittgenstein, one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century, profoundly shaped modern thought, particularly in the realms of language, logic, and the philosophy of mind. His philosophy spans two distinct periods, marked by an evolution in his views on the relationship between language, meaning, and reality. Wittgenstein’s work challenges the way we think about and use language, positing that philosophical problems often arise from misunderstandings of language and its limitations.
Wittgenstein’s early philosophy, as presented in his landmark work Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, was grounded in the belief that language could mirror the structure of reality. According to his "picture theory of meaning," words and sentences are pictures that represent facts in the world. He argued that the limits of language are also the limits of the world, and anything that could not be meaningfully expressed through language was simply beyond the scope of philosophy. This view led him to conclude that many traditional philosophical problems were nonsensical, arising from a misuse of language.
However, Wittgenstein underwent a significant philosophical transformation after his work on the Tractatus, largely due to his dissatisfaction with the results of his early approach. By the time of his later work, particularly in Philosophical Investigations, Wittgenstein had rejected the picture theory of meaning and developed the concept of "language games." He argued that meaning is not inherent in words themselves but is derived from their use in various social contexts. Language, for Wittgenstein, is a tool embedded in human practices and activities. He claimed that understanding language requires understanding the ways it functions in specific contexts, challenging the idea of a fixed, underlying structure of meaning.

    Command of Commerce - America's...

The conventional wisdom has held that China's economic power is very close to America's and that Washington cannot undertake a broad economic cutoff of China without hurting itself as much, or more. In Command of Commerce, Ben A. Vagle and Stephen G. Brooks show the conventional wisdom is wrong on both fronts. The authors argue that America's economic power has been underestimated because conventional economic measures have ignored America's unprecedented control over the world's largest multinational corporations. They further argue that China's economic power has been overestimated due to Beijing's manipulation of its economic data and measurement issues presented by China's uniquely structured economy. The authors also show Washington could impose massive, disproportionate harm on Beijing if it imposed a broad economic cutoff on China in cooperation with its allies or via a distant naval blockade. Across six scenarios, China's short-term economic losses from a broad cutoff range from being five to eleven times higher than America's. And in the long run, America and almost all its allies would return to previous economic growth levels; in contrast, China's growth would be permanently degraded.

An incisive account of the Arctic convoys, and the essential role Bletchley Park and Special Intelligence played in Allied success

Between 1941 and 1945, more than eight hundred shiploads of supplies were delivered to the Soviet Union protected by allied naval forces. Each journey was a battle against the elements, with turbulent seas, extreme cold, and the constant dread of torpedoes. These Arctic convoys have been mythologized as defenseless vessels at the mercy of deadly U-boats—but was this really the case?

David Kenyon explores the story of the war in the Arctic, revealing that the contest was more evenly balanced that previously thought. Battles included major ship engagements, aircraft carriers, and combat between surface ships. Amid this wide range of forces, Bletchley Park's Naval Section played a decisive role in Arctic operations, with both sides relying heavily on Signals Intelligence to intercept and break each other's codes. Kenyon presents a vivid picture of the Arctic theater of war, unearthing the full-scale campaign for naval supremacy in northern waters.

This title contains 2 books about similar topics, which are the following:
1: Your subconscious is a priceless potential repository of information, insight, and wisdom. But the majority of us never use that talent to its fullest.
Using hypnosis, you can access your subconscious. You can communicate with it immediately when under hypnosis. This can assist you in obtaining important knowledge and bringing about positive changes in your life.
Your subconscious is the area of your mind that generally escapes your awareness yet has a significant impact on how you live.
For instance, your subconscious has a role in controlling such essential bodily processes as breathing and heartbeat.
When you shake your head unconsciously, look away when lying, or suddenly get an inspiring thought "out of the blue," these are all signs that your subconscious is at work.
Additionally, you may not even be aware of the ideas and emotions stored in your subconscious, yet they can have a significant impact on your behavior and general well-being.
2: The study of the anatomy and operation of the nervous system and the brain is known as neuroscience. To map the brain mechanistically, neuroscientists draw on cellular and molecular biology, anatomy and physiology, human behavior and cognition, and other fields.
Each neuron, or brain cell, in an adult human has an estimated 100 billion connections to other neurons. The mapping of all the cell-to-cell communication networks—the brain circuits that process all ideas, feelings, and behaviors—remains one of the major difficulties of contemporary neuroscience. The resulting image that gradually forms is referred described as "the connectome". All learning is based on the brain's capacity to build new neural circuits and connections, or neuroplasticity".
