Sinossi

Dante Alighieri's epic poem, later given the title Divine Comedy by Giovanni Boccaccio, is widely considered one of the most significant literary works of the Middle Ages and the crowning achievement of medieval Italian literature. Originally titled simply Comedy, this allegorical tale of Dante's imagined journey through the afterlife has had an enduring impact on Western culture.

By deciding to compose his masterpiece not in scholarly Latin but rather in the Tuscan vernacular, Dante boldly asserted the artistic potential of the common Italian language. At a time when most serious writings were still produced in Latin, accessible only to the highly educated elite, Dante pioneered the use of the vernacular for a major work of literature. This choice allowed him to reach a much wider audience and helped pave the way for the development of a standardized national language.

In addition to the Divine Comedy, Dante produced other innovative works in Tuscan such as Vita Nuova and De Vulgari Eloquentia, a treatise defending the literary use of vernacular languages. He would inspire later titans of Italian literature like Petrarch and Boccaccio to follow his example and produce their own trailblazing works in the vernacular.

Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner helped introduce the world to ultramarathoning. Now, after three decades of running ultramarathons across the globe, Dean Karnazes is still going strong. This updated and revised edition includes an afterword full of the lessons he’s picked
up along the way. He gives personal details on the essential pillars of health—fitness, diet, and sleep.

What does he eat, what supplements does he take, and what kind of mattress does he sleep on? Aging well takes work, and the man who hasn’t stopped is sharing the tips and learnings that have kept him going, mile after grueling mile.

Ultramarathon Man is Karnazes’ story: the mind-boggling adventures of his nonstop treks through the shoe-melting inferno of Death Valley, the lung-freezing ferocity of the South Pole, and the awe-inspiring beauty of the towering peaks and craggy canyons of the Sierra Nevada.

With an insight and candor rarely seen in sports memoirs, he reveals how he navigates the solitary, manic, self-absorbed life of extreme ultrarunning with a full-time job, a wife, and two children, and how running has made him who he is today: a man with an ironclad body, a teenager’s energy, and a
    champion’s wisdom.

'Riveting' Kirk DouglasFrom his first Oscar, Marlon Brando built an impenetrable fortress around his private life: unauthorised releases—or snapshots of him, even by friends—were forbidden. George Englund was Brando's closest friend for almost fifty years and the last person to visit him before his death. Based on deeply personal stories from the death of their sons to Jackie Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, he draws Brando's life as only they knew it. A young actor emerges who was beautiful in every way; driven by his instinctive talent to break new ground, athletic, muscular, seductive, intelligent and generous. And, from early on, seeds of self-destruction began to grow.

GENDER EUPHORIA: a powerful feeling of happiness experienced as a result of moving away from one's birth-assigned gender. So often the stories shared by trans people about their transition center on gender dysphoria: a feeling of deep discomfort with their birth-assigned gender, and a powerful catalyst for coming out or transitioning. But for many non-cisgender people, it's gender euphoria that pushes forward their transition: the joy the first time a parent calls them by their new chosen name, the first time they have the confidence to cut their hair short, the first time they truly embrace themself.

In this groundbreaking anthology, nineteen trans, non-binary, agender, gender-fluid, and intersex writers share their experiences of gender euphoria: an agender dominatrix being called "Daddy," an Arab trans man getting his first tattoos, a trans woman embracing her inner fighter. What they have in common are their feelings of elation, pride, confidence, freedom and ecstasy as a direct result of coming out as non-cisgender, and how coming to terms with their gender has brought unimaginable joy into their lives.

12 Disturbing True Crime Stories of Murder, Deception, and Mayhem
Volume Nine of the True Crime Case Histories Series (2022)
    Fans Love This Series—Over 7,000 Five-Star Ratings
If you’re a fan of true crime, you’re undoubtedly familiar with the big-name cases: Ted Bundy, BTK, David Berkowitz, Christopher Watts, Diane Downs, Casey Anthony, Jeffrey Dahmer, Jodi Arias, Ed Gein, etc. The list of well-known, notorious cases throughout history is seemingly endless. Books, websites, podcasts, streaming television series, and magazines are filled with their abhorrent tales of mayhem. They’re some of the most foul killers the world has ever known.
In my books, I do my best to find stories you may not have heard of. To do this, I count on my audience to send me stories that may have gone forgotten and aren't found all over the internet.
Several submitted stories found in this volume, including the story of five-year-old Stephanie Hebert, who walked only three houses down her quiet suburban sidewalk and disappeared forever. Her case went cold for 40 years before other children from her neighborhood came forward in their adulthood with information leading to the killer.
In this volume, you’ll find 12 assorted true crime stories ranging in date from the 1950s to 2020.
There’s the story of the sadistic mother who viewed her children only as the spawn of their demon father, torturing them for their entire short lives.
You’ll also hear of the deranged husband and wife team who started their own cult and made it their life’s mission to rid the world of witches.
Another story tells the disheartening tale of a toddler’s skeleton found in a suitcase on the side of the road. Motorcyclists discovered her mother’s skeleton more than 600 miles away. Five years had passed, with no one even realizing they were missing.
    Plus many more disturbing stories.
