Sinossi

His opposition to slavery outweighed his religion’s views of war: “One of the most unique and extensive views of a Delaware war veteran’s experience” (Main Line Times).   When the call went out in 1862 for volunteers for Delaware’s 4th Infantry Regiment, a number of men from prominent Quaker families came forward to fight for the Union. Deeply patriotic and strongly opposed to slavery, they served with distinction in some of the later campaigns of the Civil War, from Cold Harbor through Appomattox. Among them was Henry Gawthrop. Commissioned a first lieutenant in Company F, he saw action during the Siege of Petersburg and at the Battle of Five Forks. Fifty years after the war, he drew on his diary and letters from the war years to create a unique memoir that is among the most comprehensive and detailed of any Delaware Civil War veteran. This is his story.   Includes photos!   “Excellent.” —Delmarva Now

Ginger Baker is, without question, one of the foremost drummers of his generation, having formed supergroups Cream and Blind Faith. In the early 1990s, Geoffrey Giuliano received a call from Baker asking if he would be interested in writing his autobiography. From there a turbulent, yet fruitful relationship ensued between the two men. While the book they wrote has yet to be published, here, at last, are the in-depth, upfront, and personal conversations the two unlikely friends recorded in a Western New York studio all those years ago. Ginger speaks his mind holding forth on the particulars of his amazing life and work and in doing so reveals something he has always ardently tried to hide - that he is really a lovely, caring, sensitive man. For everyone interested in the history, art, and cultural significance of the popular music of the 20th century, this series is a once in a lifetime, must-have audio event. Perfect for universities and all educational media. Contains adult language and mature themes. Not recommended for children. Produced by Fred Betschen. Edited by Macc Kay. Bobby Goldsboro describes the first song he ever wrote with a laugh as “one of the worst you’ve ever heard.” Though those first attempts at songwriting weren’t exactly successful, he went on to enjoy a wildly successful career including the chart-topping hit “Honey,” which sold more than a million copies in the United States. In the height of his popularity in 1973, Goldsboro sat down with Wink Martindale to discuss his wildly successful career that included 16 top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and 12 on the country chart with singles like “See the Funny Little Clown” and “Summer (The First Time).” He reflects on how his songwriting has changed over the years, what influences him both personally and musically and how he discovered he wanted to be in the music industry.

I have an enormous amount of respect for people who consider themselves entrepreneurs. People who, in most cases, take tremendous risks in hopes of experiencing tremendous rewards. Not only for themselves but for the world at large.Entrepreneurs hire the most people, drive the economy, create innovation, promote research and development, while shaping new products and services. They solve problems with existing solutions, and technologies, while in most cases utilizing existing resources more effectively and more times than not on shoestring budgets.I consider entrepreneurs to be the great pioneers of today's business world. If you are considering launching your own entrepreneurial journey, are well on your way, or anywhere in between, my passion and purpose in writing this book is to give you confidence!

Croswell as they gathered to sort out a bloody war of succession. For years, FBI director J. Edgar Hoover had adamantly denied the existence of the Mafia, but young Robert Kennedy immediately recognized the shattering importance of the Appalachian summit. As attorney general when his brother JFK became president, Bobby embarked on a campaign to break the spine of the mob, engaging in a furious turf battle with the powerful Hoover.Detailing mob killings, the early days of the heroin trade, and the crusade to loosen the hold of organized crime, fans of Gus Russo and Luc Sante will find themselves captured by this momentous story. ‘An exquisitely-written, generous, funny, thoughtful book about the everyday joys of being alive. I love it.’ Dolly Alderton
‘J. B. Priestley is one of our literary icons of the 20th Century and it is time that we all became re-acquainted with his genius.’ Dame Judi Dench
‘My apology, my little bit of penitence, for having grumbled so much, for having darkened the breakfast table, almost ruined the lunch, nearly silence the dinner party, for all the fretting and chafing, grousing and croaking, for the old glum look and the thrust-out lower lip. So my long-suffering kinsfolk, my patient friends, may a glimmer of that delight which has so often possessed me, but perhaps too frequently in secret, now reach you from these pages.’
There are times when there doesn’t seem much to smile about. And for those times, there is this book. J. B Priestley’s 1949 classic teaches us that joy may be found in even the simplest things, and that we all have the capacity to appreciate them.
Delight comprises a series of short essays, all focussing on a single simple pleasure, from reading detective stories in bed to smoking a pipe in the bath; from ‘Cosy planning’ to the earliest summer mornings; and from mineral water in the bedrooms of foreign hotels to the smell of bacon in the morning.
Combining poignant memories of his childhood with glimpses of his interior world, panoramas of life abroad with thoughts about writing, music, theatre – some strictly personal, some universal –this highly readable book bursts with humour and literary flare on every page.
In his autobiography, Priestley takes us on a travel through his life, sharing collections of moments that brought him happiness. This non-fiction memoirs book is a top pick for anyone seeking growth.
For fans of Rory Stewart (Politics On the Edge), Marion Turner (The Wife of Bath), Felicity Cloake (Red Sauce Brown Sauce), and Ross Gay (The Book of Delights).
