Sinossi

Around the World in Eighty Days is one of Jules Verne's most beloved adventure novels—a fast-paced, imaginative tale that celebrates ingenuity, determination, and the thrill of global exploration. Set during the age of steam and rail, the story captures the excitement of a rapidly shrinking world made possible by modern transportation.

The novel follows the unflappable English gentleman Phileas Fogg, who accepts an audacious wager that he can travel around the world in just eighty days. Accompanied by his loyal and resourceful servant, Passepartout, Fogg embarks on a whirlwind journey across continents and oceans, encountering exotic landscapes, cultural surprises, and unexpected dangers at every turn. Unbeknownst to him, a persistent detective suspects Fogg of a crime and follows closely behind, adding tension and humor to the race against time.

Blending adventure with wit and precise detail, Jules Verne transforms timetables and geography into a thrilling narrative of suspense. The novel explores themes of perseverance, adaptability, and the contrast between rigid logic and human emotion, while also reflecting the optimism and curiosity of the nineteenth century.

Around the World in Eighty Days is a timeless celebration of travel and imagination. Entertaining, clever, and endlessly engaging, it remains a classic adventure story that continues to inspire readers with its spirit of discovery and the enduring excitement of seeing the world.

Dive into a modern American fable that will captivate your mind and ignite your spirit. "Sheep Herders Wolves, Why We Are Where We Are" is a provocative tale of power, choices, and the hidden truths of our society.
It all begins at a lively bar, where Jeff and his college friends celebrate the end of the fall term. Amidst the laughter and clinking glasses, José drops a bombshell: "Society operates by two mandates… Might Makes Right, and the Many Serve the Few." This unsettling declaration sends Jeff into a whirlwind of questions and doubts.
"Are we not a country governed by laws, offering equal opportunity for all?" Jeff challenges.
José's response is chillingly certain, "Throughout all of human history, the masses have served the few. The peasants have always served the powerful – those bold enough to seize power. Times haven’t changed. Human nature hasn’t changed. That we acquire debt and shackle ourselves in servitude is not by happenstance. The system always evolves to ensure the many serve the few. We just happen to be the many."
Disturbed and searching for answers, Jeff turns to his wise grandfather, Papa, during winter break. Over an intense cribbage match, Papa unfolds a mesmerizing tale of creation: SHEEP, HERDERS, WOLVES. This ancient narrative sheds light on why we are where we are and who truly holds the reins of power.
Embark on an enthralling journey with Jeff as he navigates the intricate dynamics of power and servitude. "Sheep Herders Wolves" is not just a story – it’s an eye-opening exploration that challenges our perceptions and inspires us to rethink the world we live in.
Prepare to be provoked, scared, and ultimately inspired by this masterful modern fable. Are you ready to discover the truth?

Susan Keating Glaspell was born on July 1st, 1876 in Davenport, Iowa.

Glaspell, a precocious child, was an active student at Davenport High School. By 18 she was earning a salary at the local newspaper as a journalist, and by 20 she was the author of a weekly 'Society' column.

At 21 she enrolled for Philosophy at Drake University, in Des Moines, where she excelled in debate competitions, and represented them at the state tournament.

After graduation, Glaspell again worked as a reporter, still a rare position for a woman, and assigned to cover the state legislature and murder cases.

At 24, after covering the conviction of a woman accused of murdering her abusive husband, Glaspell abruptly resigned and returned to Davenport, and a career writing fiction. Her stories were published by periodicals, including Harper's and Munsey's.

In 1909, moving to Chicago she wrote her debut novel, ‘The Glory of the Conquered’. It was a best-seller. So too her 2nd and 3rd and to glowing reviews.

With her husband Glaspell founded the Provincetown Playhouse for plays that reflected contemporary issues. Her first play, ‘Trifles’ (1916), was based on the murder trial she covered as a young reporter and later adapted as the short story ‘A Jury of Her Peers’. She wrote 12 plays over 7 years for the company. By 1918 Glaspell was considered one of America's most significant new playwrights. Despite its success theatre work did not make financial sense and she continued to submit short stories in order to support her and her husband during their years with the theater.

In 1931 her play, ‘Alison's House’, received the Pulitzer Prize. She continued to write and now with themes increasingly based on her surroundings, on family life, and on theistic questions.
