Sinossi

In "The Wyvern Mystery," Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu crafts a compelling gothic narrative that intertwines elements of mystery, horror, and the supernatural. Set against the backdrop of a decaying aristocracy, the novel employs rich, atmospheric language that captures the essence of Victorian anxieties surrounding class and identity. Le Fanu's intricate plot reveals the dark secrets of the Wyvern family, skillfully blending psychological tension with a critique of societal norms. His use of first-person narration invites readers into a labyrinth of intrigue, making the atmosphere both immersive and unsettling, while exploring themes of obsession and moral ambiguity. Le Fanu, a pioneer of the ghost story genre, was profoundly influenced by his Irish heritage and literary contemporaries. His experiences growing up near the haunted ruins of his student years alongside the growing fascination with the supernatural in Victorian literature likely propelled him to delve into the themes we see in "The Wyvern Mystery." As an author, he synthesized folklore, personal history, and philosophical inquiry, enabling him to confront the fears and desires of his time through his intricate storytelling. This novel is a must-read for enthusiasts of gothic fiction and mystery alike, blending suspense with a rich literary analysis of 19th-century anxieties. Le Fanu's masterful use of suspense and character complexity makes "The Wyvern Mystery" not just an entertaining read, but a profound exploration of the darkness within human nature.

Akin to being a DARKER version of The Princess Bride and The King in Yellow.
Reading this book is like going into a trippy play where animals talk and there are bizarre characters. It is a mind-bending read with interesting characters and a story plot. Believe it or not, it does have a lesson to the story, we all wear masks to hide our true selves.
Talented storyteller: he paints entire scenes with plenty of details. His characters are gorgeously written, making the novel very easy to read at lightning speed. As you can see this book is highly reflective of the thoughts we share in our heads once in a while. The story is mysterious and poetic at the same time, giving a resemblance to Hamlet.

This 14th installment of the Jerry McNeal Series has Jerry and Gunter heading to Texas.
Along the way, Jerry finds himself dealing with unexpected visitors who challenge his patience and further test his psychic abilities.
Among the visitors is the ghostly spirit of Texas Ranger, Clive Tisdale, who is not a fan of dogs, refuses to tell Jerry why he is there, and if his presence has anything to do with Texas Ranger Raymond Hale.
Raymond Hale oversaw mob informant Antonio Maioriello until both men went missing years earlier and were presumed dead until recent weeks when Maioriello’s image started showing up in tourist photos taken outside the Alamo.
At first, this was presumed to be a camera malfunction, as no one recalled him being present at the time the photos were taken.
Then Maioriello showed up in a photo with the niece of Bruno Deluca – the man Maioriello informed on before being placed in the witness relocation program, and Deluca used his influence to demand answers.
Now, not only must Jerry locate the spirit who is causing the chaos, he must convince Bruno Deluca that Maioriello is truly dead.
Will Jerry and Gunter get to the Alamo in time to defend it from another invasion?
Will Tisdale change his stance about dogs?
Find out in Star Treatment – book 14 of The Jerry McNeal Series.

“Clay McLeod Chapman is one of my favorite horror storytellers working today.” — Jordan Peele

A murderous artist is haunted by the spirits of those he has killed in this surreal and chilling supernatural revenge novella.

From the acclaimed author of Ghost Eaters, and perfect for fans of Joe Hill and Delilah S. Dawson.

At sixty-six years old, Winston Kemper has always been a nonentity. No one notices him. His simple existence barely registers for those who come into contact with him. Some call him feeble-minded. He is a janitor at the local church, a groundskeeper by default, and that’s it. No friends, no family. When he’s done with work, he returns home—a remote, single room apartment located above a garage—and that is where his true work begins.

Winston Kemper is a collector of voices, and his magnum opus—The Butterfly Girls—is a sprawling epic of untapped imagination. It has no single canvas, no particular frame. It is everywhere—scribbled on the walls, the floor, and countless notebooks.

Winston is creating a fantasia which exists in words, images and blood. As part of his 'art' he has been murdering forgotten women. Poor souls who slip through the cracks of society, who no one’s looking for. Mothers, sisters, daughters to someone, but no more.

Winston takes their lives, their voices.

But now he can hear them. They whisper to him. They talk of revenge.

Winston Kemper might not believe in ghosts, but he is about to learn they are very real. And they are very, very angry.

A surreal and dreamlike novella about the ghosts of our past and the dangerous, obsessive pursuit of art, from the "true master of horror." (CJ Leede, Maeve Fly)

Three Ghost Stories is just that: a collection of three different stories that are true Gothic classics. The three stories, The Signal Man, The Haunted House and The Trial for Murder were sensational for their time and continue to hold up well, thanks to Charles Dickens' superb skills at storytelling. The Signal Man is the most well known of the three, chronicling the haunting of a railroad signal man who is visited by a ghost just before a tragic event is to happen on the railway. If you like Dickens and tales of spectres and the supernatural, you'll love Three Ghost Stories. Charles John Huffam Dickens was an English writer and social critic. He created some of the world's best-known fictional characters and is regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. His works enjoyed unprecedented popularity during his lifetime, and by the twentieth century critics and scholars had recognised him as a literary genius. His novels and short stories enjoy lasting popularity.
