Summary

Jack is so lazy that he spends all his time sitting by the fire or basking in the sun while his mother works. One day, his mother tells him he must finally earn his own keep or be turned out of the house. Jack begins taking small jobs for local farmers and shopkeepers, but he has no idea how to bring his wages home. He tries to put a jar of milk in his pocket, carries cheese on his head, and even tries to lead a cat home on a string! Each day leads to a new and funny disaster as Jack tries to follow his mother's advice in the most literal way possible. His silly mistakes eventually lead to a surprising reward...
