Summary

This edition includes the following editor's introduction: The importance of water in the literature of Joseph Conrad

First published in 1920, “The Rescue” (also known as The Rescue, A Romance of the Shallows) is one of Joseph Conrad's works contained in what is now sometimes referred to as The Lingard Trilogy, a group of novels revolving around the character of Tom Lingard and based on Conrad's experience as mate on the steamer Vidar. Although it was the last of the three novels to be published, after “Almayer's Folly” (1895) and “An Outcast of the Islands” (1896), the events related in the novel precede those. The novel took twenty years to complete. Conrad started it in the late 1890’s. He set it aside in 1898 to work on other projects and didn’t complete it until 1918. Had he completed “The Rescue” without interruption, it would have been his third book, making his first three novels the trilogy.

“The Rescue” narrates the story of Captain Tom Lingard, the recurring protagonist of The Lingard Trilogy, who was on his way to help a native friend regain his land when he falls in love with a married woman whose yacht he saves from foundering...

The Pilgrim is the book the MOD tried to ban. It is a rollercoaster of an autobiography of Colin Maclachlan, known for his appearances on shows like Channel 4's SAS: Who Dares Wins and Channel 5's Secrets of the SAS.His autobiography starts with his troubled childhood and escape to the military where, as a fifteen year-old boy, he grows up and matures into the SAS soldier we now recognise. Early chapters describe physical, mental and sexual abuse and Colin could easily have ended up in a home but despite the odds and with the help of both the Children's Panels, NSPCC and some diligent schoolteachers, Colin escaped to the army. Colin had to get special permission to join the army at only fifteen years of age and goes from being a young vulnerable and damaged boy to a capable soldier through preparation for the first Gulf War and joining the oldest and most senior infantry regiment in the British Army, The Royal Scots. From operations in Northern Ireland to being the Queen's Butcher to Colin's first TV cameos on Soldier Soldier and Gladiators, Colin's stories and anecdotes are both exhilarating and hilarious.Colin then describes the arduous SAS selection process, the hardest and most gruelling military selection process in the world. Colin describes in some detail what most have never even heard in this secretive world where Colin goes from a course of what seemed hundreds down to only six percent in six months! The reader is then taken on a never seen before description of life as an SAS operator. Daily life in an operational squadron and the operations, missions and training involved all described in detail. Colin was part of Mountain Troop, D Squadron who were to be involved in some of the most high-profile and dangerous missions in SAS history.

Many people know that crises are problems such as difficulties or dangers that seem at times too unbearable to overcome. They are a reason for situations that are the turning point of survival of the fittest when important changes need to take place, basically indicating either overcome or death. This reality is true for many. As a mother trying to bring forth another life in this world or just trying to live as a redeemed child of God, but realize you are one who lacks the strategies to overcome the unforeseen crisis. I Evangelist Terry through many experiences have recognized over the years how to provide an explanation and how to recognize difficult situations and the strategies to overcome them.
My difficult pregnancy with Timothy encourages me to write this book to help all who read this book to hear the heart and mind of God, how He guides us through the Spirit of truth to receive accurate solutions, and how to overcome some of the most difficult problems in this world. I Evangelist Terry believe all of us have been trapped at times in difficult situations but lack accurate and precise solutions, we all need to lead to results. This book will explain how I came out of different crises and how you may extract these same principles and apply them to the similar crisis you are facing and possibly will face in life.
Timothy Russell - Defying All Odds is a sequence of different events having certain characteristics in common that were all identified together as a group of crises that lead to problems after problems. While reading through this book, you will notice how the chapters are constructed in a sequence of difficult situations where all odds were against giving birth to Timothy, but how the true and living God does guide us through the Spirit of truth to receive accurate solutions how to overcome unbearable crisis bringing about lasting joy.
