Sinossi

The Complete Poetical Works of John Keats presents a comprehensive collection of the poet's remarkable oeuvre, showcasing his mastery of language and profound emotional depth. Characterized by vivid imagery, lyrical beauty, and a deep engagement with themes of nature, love, and mortality, Keats's work draws significantly from the Romantic literary movement. This edition encapsulates his renowned odes, sonnets, and narrative poems, reflecting a keen sensitivity to the transient beauty of life—a hallmark of his unique style that blends classical influences with personal reflection. John Keats (1795-1821) was a key figure in the English Romantic movement, whose work was deeply influenced by his own experiences with grief and unrequited love, as well as the burgeoning industrial landscape of early 19th-century England. His tragic early death at the age of 25 heightened the posthumous appreciation for his poetic genius, which has since inspired countless generations. Keats's commitment to beauty and his pursuit of truth led him to explore the interplay between art and life, themes that resonate throughout his work. For readers seeking an immersive experience in the world of Romantic poetry, The Complete Poetical Works of John Keats is an essential volume. It offers a profound insight into the human condition while providing a testament to Keats's enduring legacy as a poet whose emotions and imagery continue to captivate and inspire.

Lady, the first full collection of poems by Laurie Bolger, arrives 'all giddy with endorphins' and explores the many roles girls and women are asked to play and the dressing-up outfits they try on for size – whether housewife or hen, sister or mum, landlady, exercise instructor or best friend forever. Bolger's poems turn her bold, funny and wise words on boys, body image and the pressure to make yourself fit into a pigeon-hole, when all you really want to do is soar away on your own wings.
Here, these gritty and effervescent poems look to the things that sustain us when navigating an imperfect world obsessed with perfection. Whether dancing in the kitchen, crying in the bath or eating crisps, these poems are equal parts delicious, joyous, and bittersweet. A celebration of the resilience of working-class women and the solidarity and love found in friendship and family, Bolger's poems dare to dream and be wild – and invite us all to join her.

Acclaimed American writer, Edgar Allan Poe (1809 to 1849) was known particularly for his mysteries and tales of the macabre. He was one of the country's earliest practitioners of the short story, and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre.
Poe's father abandoned the family when he was just 1 year old and his mother died the following year. He was taken in by John and Frances Allan and lived with them into young adulthood. Poe attended the University of Virginia but had to leave due to lack of money. He quarreled with John Allan over the lack of funds for his education. In 1827, Poe enlisted in the United States Army under an assumed name and also published his first collection. Poe failed as an officer cadet at West Point, decided to be a full-time writer, and thus the relationship with the Allans was severed.
