Wayne Koestenbaum returns with a zesty and hyper-literate collection of personal and critical essays on the 1980s, including essays on major cultural figures such as Andy Warhol and Brigitte Bardot.Wayne Koestenbaum has been described as "an impossible lovechild from a late-night, drunken three-way between Joan Didion, Roland Barthes, and Susan Sontag" (Bidoun). In My 1980s and Other Essays, a collection of extravagant range and style, he rises to the challenge of that improbable description. My 1980s and Other Essays opens with a series of manifestos—or, perhaps more appropriately, a series of impassioned disclosures, intellectual and personal. It then proceeds to wrestle with a series of major cultural figures, the author's own lodestars and lodestones: literary (John Ashbery, Roberto Bolaño, James Schuyler), artistic (Diane Arbus, Cindy Sherman, Andy Warhol), and simply iconic (Brigitte Bardot, Cary Grant, Lana Turner). And then there is the personal—the voice, the style, the flair—that is unquestionably Koestenbaum. It amounts to a kind of intellectual autobiography that culminates in a string of passionate calls to creativity; arguments in favor of detail and nuance, and attention; a defense of pleasure, hunger, and desire in culture and experience.Koestenbaum is perched on the cusp of being a true public intellectual—his venues are more mainstream than academic, his style is eye-catching, his prose unfailingly witty and passionate, his interests profoundly wide-ranging and popular. My 1980s should be the book that pushes Koestenbaum off that cusp and truly into the public eye.

Who knew sleeping around could save the entire species?I'm a simple dragon. Give me knowledge, give me research, give me rings for my hoard, and give me athletic men who want to get sweaty between the sheets . . . or anywhere else. Those things make me happy. Other things . . . well, who cares about those?Turns out, I should have cared. Or at least paid attention. Because I somehow signed up for a scientific study run by a shy, nerdy sorcerer with the body of a god. And the study just happens to be about my favorite form of exercise. It doesn't take long for me to know I want to do more than science with Rhys. I've never been the kind of dragon to mix feelings with fun, but Rhys could be the one person who meets all my needs, even if he won't wear a ring on every finger. But when his research becomes more important than any of us could have imagined, our relationship enters a new phase. Now it's up to me to show Rhys how much he's worth . . . both to me and to the future of his species.

The only goal Prince Syrius Fortune of Rosenhip had during his twin sister's "meet the suitors" ball, was to stay quiet and out of the way. His sister's event had been in the planning for five years, and he and his loving father had already agreed trying to seek a wedding contract for himself was not a good idea. Prince Syrius had quirks, and it wasn't as though he needed to open himself up to ridicule from someone else, especially a spouse he would have to get to know. The event was only a week, and being a lot smaller than his older brothers, Syrius was used to not being seen. Until someone saw him.
King Mintyn of Marinkaw had been a soldier since he was fifteen years old. He was not impressed to find out the one time of the year he was supposed to be meeting King Fortune to sign their Golden Straits agreement was apparently the one time his friend decided to have a huge event going on.
However, his aide told him he had been invited, and it was only one ball. Mintyn could enjoy some good food, network a while, and then leave the following morning once the treaty was signed. That was until he saw a young vision being hassled by an entitled duke. On learning the vision being hassled was his friend's youngest son, Mintyn decided to intervene. It was a nice thing to do. One shortened dance later as Prince Syrius walked away from him after he put his foot in his mouth, Mintyn told his aide to rejiggle his schedule. He had a spouse to woo.
This is one of those light stories that my muse weaves sometimes simply to make people smile. There are no deep and meaningful plot lines, just a bit fun between two men who look so unsuited for each other on the surface of things, but their pairing proves opposites do attract and stay together. It is in the same universe as the Infidelity Clause but is totally standalone. Watch for cameo appearances by a cupcake eating dragon, an episode of prince throwing, and potato cuffs.

In art and in love, it’s the rough edges that make things interesting. Bend or Break, Book 6. Having grown up with artistic implements always in hand, there’s almost nothing Austin can’t make real. Except for one thing—an official relationship with his best friend, rowing teammate and occasional hookup, Vinnie. The combination of emotional and sexual frustration fuels a spark between Austin and the nude model in his drawing class. Austin isn’t used to having trouble focusing; models are merely challenging subjects to be rendered on paper. But the geology TA’s direct blue gaze is powerful enough to drag Austin’s focus away from his…physique. After a quick and very dirty post-class encounter, all the reasons that Austin has been waiting for his best friend go fuzzy in his mind. Sean is nothing like Vinnie. Sean is persistent, pays attention, and makes it clear he wants to be together. But if Austin can’t get his head and his heart on the same page, he could lose his friend, or his lover. Or both. Warning: Contains rock geeks, tent sex, a dictatorial cox whose idea of a good time is drawing naked dudes, plus one naked dude who wants to be more than a good time.

Shifting Into High FearGhost/god Wes Cooper and his not-life partner, vampire Hudson Rojas, have settled into cohabitation in an upscale part of Toronto. So what if their hoity-toity new neighbors haven't exactly rolled out the welcome mat for the paranormal pair? Throw in a surprise visit from Hudson's niece—who may or may not be on the run from European paranormal police (who may or may not exist)—and guardianship of a teen shifter who might be the key to solving the whole mystery (if only she could recover her memory), and Wes and Hudson have never been busier . . . or happier. But when a nightmare from Hudson's past comes back to haunt him, their weird, little found family is pushed to the brink. Mucking this up would mean Hudson and Wes missing their second chance at happily-forever-afterlife . . . Contains mature themes.
