Sinossi

The first biography of Kierkegaard's literary muse and one-time fiancée, from the author of the definitive biography of the philosopherKierkegaard's Muse, the first biography of Regine Olsen (1822–1904), the literary inspiration and one-time fiancée of Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, is a moving portrait of a long romantic fever that had momentous literary consequences. Drawing on more than one hundred previously unknown letters by Regine that acclaimed Kierkegaard biographer Joakim Garff discovered by chance, the book tells the story of Kierkegaard and Regine's mysterious relationship more fully and vividly than ever before, shedding new light on her influence on his life and writings.Like Dante's Beatrice, Regine is one of the great muses of literary history. Kierkegaard proposed to her in 1840, but broke off the engagement a year later. After their break, they saw each other strikingly often, inside dimly lit churches, on the streets of Copenhagen, and on the paths along the old city ramparts, passing by without uttering a word.Despite or because of their separation in life, Kierkegaard made Regine his literary life companion, "that single individual" to whom he dedicated all his works. Garff shows how Regine became a poetic presence in the frequent erotic conflicts found throughout Kierkegaard's writings, from the famous "Seducer's Diary" account of their relationship to diary entries made shortly before his death in 1855. In turn, Regine remained preoccupied with Kierkegaard until her own death almost fifty years later, and her newly discovered letters, written to her sister Cornelia, reveal for the first time a woman of flesh and blood.A psychologically acute narrative that is as gripping as a novel, Kierkegaard's Muse is an unforgettable account of a wild, strange, and poignant romance that made an indelible mark on literary history. Some images inside the book are unavailable due to digital copyright restrictions.

This is small copy of the introduction of the book: Francis Bacon (1561-1626) was an English philosopher, statesman, scientist, jurist, and author. He is considered to be one of the most influential figures in the Scientific Revolution. Bacon's work helped to lay the foundation for modern science by promoting the use of inductive reasoning and experimental observation.
Bacon was born into a prominent family in London. His father, Sir Nicholas Bacon, was the Lord Keeper of the Great Seal under Queen Elizabeth I. Bacon's mother, Anne Cooke Bacon, was a learned woman who taught him Latin and Greek at a young age.
Bacon received a classical education at Trinity College, Cambridge. After graduating from Cambridge, he studied law at Gray's Inn. Bacon was admitted to the bar in 1582 and quickly rose through the ranks of the legal profession.
In 1584, Bacon was elected to Parliament. He served in Parliament for over 20 years and was a vocal advocate for reform. Bacon also served in a number of government positions, including Solicitor General, Attorney General, and Lord Chancellor.

In search of lost glitter is a memoir of love and loss written in many stories, many only 100-words long. It is about how an ordinary and unremarkable life was turned upside down when Sarah lost her husband in 2010.This is how she held things together, not a guide of how to survive grief but maybe some of her stories will give you hope and help you find some lost glitter along the way. When a loved one dies it is often the seemingly insignificant detailsthat stir up the brightest memories. The colour of the top worn for the funeral, the sound of matches rattling in a coat pocket, eating sausages and chips for Christmas dinner. These are the fragments of lost glitter. What other people are saying"Tender and true and beautifully written."Stephanie Butland - Found in a Bookshop“Sarah has dealt with potentially heavy subject-matter – young widowhood, cancer, and the loss of her Dad – with a light touch and sprinkles of humour, giving the reader plenty of space to breathe and reflect. I felt like I had spent a lovely weekend holed up somewhere cosy with her, listening to her stories and getting a real sense of her relationships, and hopes for the future. In particular her honesty about mental health and difficult times is refreshing – it would have been so easy to have fallen into the trap of trying to be ‘inspiring’ non-stop.”Helen Anderson - Sagrada Familia“I read the first few lines and I was hooked. This is a powerfully written memoir, poured out from the heart. Taking the form of short stories, the book makes you feel like a fellow traveller through significant periods of Sarah’s life - the good times, the hard times and the tragedy. Sarah writes so authentically that I felt I was right there with her, witnessing her heartbreak and sharing in her times of joy. This is compelling reading for anyone dealing with grief or wanting to help someone who is going t

Christmas Eve, 2002: eight-months-pregnant Laci Peterson vanishes from her Modesto home, and America can’t look away. The Murder of Laci Peterson audiobook hurls you into the frantic 911 call, the exhaustive searches along San Francisco Bay, and the courtroom battle that turned Scott Peterson into a household name.
Through measured, cinematic narration, court transcripts and forensic evidence unfold like scenes in a thriller. You’ll relive the instant a simple holiday morning became a statewide manhunt, trace the investigative leaps that stitched together a web of circumstantial clues, and feel the suffocating media glare that blurred facts, fear, and public opinion. As each witness takes the stand, the narrator ratchets up the tension until the verdict—still fiercely debated—drops with gut-punching finality.
Yet this is more than a timeline. The story restores Laci’s humanity beyond the headlines, probes the psychology of domestic betrayal, and challenges you to weigh the evidence for yourself—all while keeping you riveted on your commute, during a workout, or in a late-night listening binge.
Press play, follow the clues, and decide where the truth really lies.

The story of Luigi Ronsisvalle is an intimate look at the life of a professional killer. It is, in some ways, the story of all workingmen and women with ambition who never achieve their ultimate goal. But what makes Luigi unique is that, for him to achieve his goal, people had to die. His ambition, from when he was twelve years old, was to be a made man in the Mafia. He once told a presidential commission, "American child falls in love with baseball, I fall in love with Mafia."

Coauthor Michael Vecchione spent months interviewing the hitman about his life in the Sicilian and American Mafia, finally becoming his confidant. Those days, weeks, and months together brought Luigi to realize that, despite the concept of omertà—the code of silence ingrained in him from an early age—the road to a truly honorable life meant turning on those he once admired.

Luigi had done everything asked of him by his Mafia bosses. This included the murder of thirteen people. But unlike other hitmen, Luigi was denied the Mafia recognition he felt he deserved. Drawing on personal files, handwritten notes, and official sources, this book attempts to explain his complicated life.

    Contains mature themes.

'A wonderful collection stemming from a hugely important project keeping young Welsh writers connected to Europe despite all attempts to sever these crucial cultural ties.' – Rachel Trezise
'Anthologies such as this one are the footings of the recently-burnt bridges that we need to rebuild. They help to tear down the walls put up around us. Always important, they are now vital.' – Niall Griffiths
Ulysses's Cat brings readers the work of some of the most outstanding authors of the younger generation from Croatia, Greece, Serbia, Slovenia and Wales who participated in a project of exchange residencies originally launched on the Croatian island of Mljet, where, according to legend, shipwrecked Ulysses found shelter. As Britain becomes metaphorically unmoored and drifts away from Europe, keeping connected through reading and dialogue provides us with new perspectives on our place in the world and on the tumultuous times we live in. The works of poetry, prose and essays included here offer a snapshot of the concerns and preoccupations shared by young writers from a region with a rich literature that rarely reaches English-language readers and at the same time confirms the vitality of the bilingual Welsh literary scene.
