Sinossi

Societies are based on the principle of the inalienable right to life, and indeed States have a duty to preserve life. Euthanasia is based on a human principle: to shorten the unnecessary suffering of the person undergoing a process of terminal deterioration. Of course, different cultures and different bodies of law have different assessments of the subject. The right to assisted suicide or to a so-called "dignified death" generates debates: those in favor ask why, if each person has the freedom to make decisions about his or her own life, the most important decision of all is prevented in a final phase. Those who are against it postulate the deviations that its legalization would provoke: for example, the disinvestment or even elimination of palliative care, considered as an unnecessary expense, and the possible helplessness of a patient in the care of a family overcome by suffering. It is even argued that there is a contradiction between euthanasia and physicians´ Hippocratic oath.

Yoga is an ancient practice that unites the body, mind, and spirit. It is more than just a form of physical exercise; it is a holistic approach to well-being that has been practiced for thousands of years. Rooted in ancient India, yoga originated as a spiritual discipline aimed at achieving inner peace, self-awareness, and harmony with the universe. Over time, it has evolved into various styles and forms, each catering to different needs, from physical fitness to meditation and mental clarity.
The word "yoga" comes from the Sanskrit root "yuj," which means "to unite" or "to join." This reflects the core philosophy of yoga: the connection between the individual self and the universal consciousness. Through mindful movement, controlled breathing, and meditation, yoga helps practitioners cultivate a sense of balance and tranquility, allowing them to navigate life's challenges with greater ease.
Yoga is often categorized into different branches, each emphasizing a particular aspect of the practice. Hatha Yoga is one of the most widely practiced forms, focusing on physical postures (asanas) and breath control (pranayama) to prepare the body and mind for meditation. Raja Yoga emphasizes discipline and mental control, while Bhakti Yoga is centered on devotion and love. Karma Yoga encourages selfless service, and Jnana Yoga is the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge. Regardless of the path one chooses, the ultimate goal of yoga remains the same: self-discovery and inner peace.

You can idyll for decades on a gorgeous island, comfy, safe and warm, immersed like a Medieval mystic on a life-long spiritual path, and all of a sudden it feels as if you’ve been dumped on a water slide with a sign that reads: This life is out of your price range, sweetheart! Splash!! . . Where ya gonna live? In the spring of 2018 writer / reporter Holly Nadler gave up her year-round apartment on Martha’s Vineyard even as everyone cried out, “Don’t do it! You’ll never find another one!” And they were right! Follow her around the Vineyard with her dear old thug of a Boston terrier as she lodges in a lilac-walled cottage which is enchanting except for the fact that it has no running water. After that come several seasons with her impossible and dementing 98 year-old mother in Palm Desert CA, a month in Edinburgh where she’s banished from a retreat on the Holy Isle, then back on the Vineyard for what she comes to think of as another Summer of Discombobulation. Is it possible to be a hobo and be happy? Well, yeah, as long as you can make people laugh as you write about it. And does it help redefine your spiritual path? Well, sure, because you’re a life-long seeker, and you’ll never lose sight of the Divine . . . see it? It’s just around the next bend in the road. Or the next one?
