Sinossi

In the not-too-distant future, the world is better than ever. Diseases and disorders have been wiped out. But Jess doesn’t belong. She slipped through the net and there’s something dangerous in her DNA, something that must be 'cured'. Charlie is watching Jess. He'll do whatever it takes to keep society safe. As debate over genetic screening rages,Tomcat asks how far will we go to keep humanity healthy? When you can learn everything about a person from a computer screen, is there anything left to discover? Tomcat by James Rushbrooke was the winner of the 2015 Papatango New Writing Prize in association with Southwark Playhouse, London, where it premiered in October 2015.

‘A snake-bite in the gullet’ Martin Boileau
    Foreword from Sir Anthony Seldon:
'Like a fine Prosecco in summer, they trickle easily through your body, leaving you gently uplifted and transported.
The author is a brilliant teacher and inspirer of creative writing, a passionate supporter of students and staff, and our very own ‘Happiness Tsar’, responsible for driving forward our pioneering well-being agenda.
Many of the poems that follow reveal the author’s rare combination of skill as a writer and deep human sensitivity. To me, perhaps understandably, the poem on the Boss epitomises that combination at its best.'

Winner of seven Molières, the Pulitzer Prize of France, Jean-Claude Grumberg is one of France’s leading dramatists and a distinguished voice of modern European Jewry after the Shoah. His success in portraying contemporary Parisian Jews on the stage represents a new development in European theater and a new aesthetic expression of European Jewish experience and sensibility of the Holocaust and its aftermath, a perspective quite different from either the American or the Israeli one. Grumberg’s Jews are French to their fingertips, yet they have been made more consciously Jewish by the war and the difficulties of reintegrating into a society in which too many neighbors denounced them or ignored their pleas to save their children. Affirming the new status of Jewish culture, Grumberg’s plays insist on the recognition of Jewish identity and uniqueness within the majority societies of Europe. This volume offers the first English translation of three of Grumberg’s prize-winning plays: The Workplace (L’Atelier, 1979), On the Way to the Promised Land (Vers toi Terre promise, 2006) and Mama’s Coming Back, Poor Orphan (Maman revient, pauvre orphelin, 1994). Presented in the order of the history they record and steeped in Grumberg’s personal experience and insights into contemporary Parisian life, these plays serve as documentary witnesses that begin with the immediate postwar reality and continue up to the end of the twentieth century. Seth Wolitz provides notes on the plays’ themes, structures, characters, and settings, along with an introduction that discusses Grumberg’s place within the emergence of French-Jewish drama and a translation of an interview with the playwright himself.

Alice Christiana Gertrude Meynell was an English writer, editor, critic, and suffragist, now remembered mainly as a poet.At the end of the 19th century, in conjunction with uprisings against the British (among them the Indians', the Zulus', the Boxer Rebellion, and the Muslim revolt led by Muhammad Ahmed in the Sudan), many European scholars, writers, and artists, began to question Europe's colonial imperialism. This led the Meynells and others in their circle to speak out for the oppressed. Alice Meynell was a vice-president of the Women Writers' Suffrage League, founded by Cicely Hamilton and active 1908–19. - Summary by Wikipedia

The Odyssey is an epic poem, written by the ancient Greek Philosopher Homer, and is considered to be the second oldest piece of western literature still in existence. Scholars believe it was written at the end of the 8th century BC. Still heavily used in schools because of its unique literary makeup and historical value, the poems follow Greek hero Odysseus, as he journeys home after the ten year long Trojan War. His journey home takes another ten years, and Odysseus encounters many obstacles including adverse weather, mythical beasts, and angry gods. Many Scholars believe the Odyssey was originally composed in an oral tradition, intended to be heard, not read, making this epic classic a must have for audiobook listeners!
