Sinossi

In 2022, James McDermott lost his sixty-year-old father to COVID after three weeks in intensive care. In* Father Myself*, his second collection from Nine Arches Press, McDermott explores his father's complex illness and death; grief; growth and how as a queer boy then a bereaved son, he had to learn to father himself.
In clear-sighted and often hard-hitting poems, McDermott takes the reader onto the frontline of the pandemic – documenting the experience and trauma of a COVID-bereaved family with an unflinching eye. Both powerful and compassionate, these extraordinary poems have the capacity to go beyond simply a record of events, reaching sensitively for the human details that matter – the beat of a heart and movement of breath, the touch of a hand, the words we use for goodbye.

"Rejoice, readers, as you receive the generosity of Luci Shaw's 76 new grace-infused parable poems. Autobiography once more merges with theology as these poems illuminate in splendored natural detail  how the seasons of creation  parallel and explain the seasons of her  life as a poet. Again and again, these poems shower us with glorious epiphanies from the natural world as it reflects God's generosity at work such as "spring's impossible news of green." These poems confirm that in poetry as in faith "ripeness is all." Like Wordsworth, Luci is celebrated for being a highly gifted landscape poet whose works are rich in imagery from the physical world—meadows filled with seeds, flowers, and also poems which are like "shoots" in Luci's writing life. Animals, too, great and small (beetles, cricket, and voles to bears and whales) play a major role in Luci's poetics of creation; God is likened to a great bear who leaves paw tracks for us to follow. In their deep faith and vibrant colors and designs, the poems in Generosity might be considered Luci's Book of Kells. We need to be like Luci's father who carried her poems in his briefcase to show his friends." —Philip C. Kolin, Author, Reaching Forever: Poems; Distinguished Professor of English (Emeritus), University of Southern Mississippi

‘Talisman for the Soul’ is an immersive and illuminating collection that expresses a powerful intensity of emotion, exploring overarching themes of human interaction, as well as the human need to transform and adapt as individuals. Written by a poet of rare descriptive power, the poems speak to a world of increasing disconnection, one that is careering towards climate breakdown and ecological destruction. The poems seek to reconnect with the mystery and sacredness of human life by exploring the foundations of human identity through themes that touch us all: love and loss, humour, beauty, joy, relationships, and the natural world.

'the song soil sweat of it knowing nothing ofa binary bondage a bountiful mess of myself everything under the sun is changing all thetime all my skin soft lovers flocking to the river'
Olivia Douglass' new pamphlet takes us into the shape-shifting experiences of young selfhood, family and what it means to be between worlds. Douglass' poetry is like a strong shot of the good stuff, an irresistible introduction to this multi-talented artist.
'The poems of Unruly Blood are careful, dangerous, sparse; full. Each space held within it sings as much as its words do, its every phrase simmers first before spilling over with untold possibility.' Victoria Adukwei Bulley
'An artist of the body, in Unruly Blood, Douglass transmits physical sensation to the page with rapturous fluidity. Expressive of the joy and pain of every kind of love, their work sings with exciting originality.' Erica Wagner
'Olivia Douglass is a new, clear voice and these are deep, intriguing, dangerous poems.' Brian Eno
