The book has lovely illustrations and is full of moral lessons.The introduction to "Chattering at School:  Nature poems for children" explains that these poems were written by a schoolboy aged 11 to 18 (1951-58) during his annual summer holiday visits to his grandmother on her small farm in Ireland. She had been his carer and guardian from the time of the German Blitz of London where he was born, and lived with her until the war ended in 1945. He then returned to his unknown parents, who had been unable to visit him in Ireland from the UK during the war.Over 60 years later, the author of these poems - Edward Forde Hickey - discovered them (his own schoolboy attempts at writing poetry) lying in the attic and felt they were worth recording publicly.

  Alfred Francis Kreymborg was born on the 10th December 1883, in New York City's East Side.  
  Despite attending New York public schools, he was largely self-educated teaching himself both the piano and mandolin.  He was also an excellent chess player. 
  As a poet he was an early American proponent of both free verse and prose poetry.  His individual style was evident in his published volumes and he was critically acclaimed.  Kreymborg was also very influential in the publishing world helping to launch the careers of Ezra Pound, Wallace Stevens and William Carlos Williams and providing crucial support to the Modernism movement. 
  He further expanded his writing career with several puppets plays that he later took on tour. 
  Alfred Kreymborg died on the 14th August 1966 in Milford, Connecticut.

  Prufrock and Other Observations is the title of a pamphlet of twelve poems by T. S. Eliot published in 1917 by The Egoist, a small publishing firm run by Dora Marsden, an English suffragette and philosopher of language. Most of the poems had been published earlier in literary magazines, most notably the “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”, which was Eliot’s first published poem and appeared in the June 1915 issue of Poetry: A Magazine of Modern Verse at the urging of Ezra Pound, overseas editor for the magazine. Prufrock is a dramatic interior monologue of a modern urban man trapped in an inertia of isolation and indecision that has been described as a “drama of literary anguish”. The poem was influenced by The Divine Comedy and is peppered with references to the Bible, Shakespeare plays, and the works of metaphysical poet Andrew Marvell and the French symbolist poets.  It was considered outlandish when it first appeared.  One anonymous London reviewer commented that "The fact that these things occurred to the mind of Mr. Eliot is surely of the very smallest importance to anyone, even to himself. They certainly have no relation to poetry." As it happens, Prufrock and the companion poems in this volume helped effect a paradigm shift away from Romanticism and Georgian lyrics to what came to be called Modernism and introduced one of the most distinctive voices and recognized voices in modern literature.
