Sinossi

This book delves into the history of resurrectionists and the reason why doctors need them. This is a fascinating subject and shows how doctors got into trouble. They needed to dissect the corpse so that their students could learn, but the gallows weren't providing enough, so they had to turn to the resurrectionists. For those who are interested in the resurrection, or even general history, this book is very worth reading.

Among the many masterpieces of G.K. Chesterton, The Everlasting Man is his crowning achievement. It was the book that set a young atheist named C.S. Lewis on the path toward Christianity. Evelyn Waugh called it “a permanent monument” that “needs no elucidation.” And its lively prose and compelling defense of Christianity have dazzled readers ever since. But a little elucidation, it turns out, is needed. Chesterton’s presentation of the story of humanity and religion is filled with obscure literary, historical, mythological, philosophical, and theological references—most of which are largely lost on today’s readers. And Chesterton’s paradoxical and apparently wandering style proves, at times, disorienting to newcomers. In this groundbreaking guide—the first of its kind—one of the world’s leading authorities on Chesterton walks readers through the entirety of this great apologist’s text. Complete with an introduction, footnotes, and running commentary, Dale Ahlquist’s tour through Chesterton’s classic will draw new readers into his literary world—and old readers even deeper into his literary genius.

This is an introduction to The Tao of Human Interactions.
I decided to write this book because of the need for an effective system of managing and enhancing people's ability to communicate. Its applications span business as well as personal interactions. It can be a simple way of assessing the personalities of people around you and enabling you to better interact with them. I've played the role of an employee in middle management as well as upper management. One essential skill for any good manager is communication. It is important to be able to assess the people you are managing and also to be able to effectively deliver the correct messages. It is not only important to deliver the ideas, but it also needs to be done in a way that impacts the audience correctly. An effective manager must also assess and manage the emotional states of the people involved. I have spent a good part of my life working as an employee and in upper management and middle management. I have also consulted management for many different types of organizations in the public as well as the private sector. I have worked in specific industries such as transit, technology, public works, city government, the military, and hospitality. My approach has always been to try to create effective modes of interaction and communication between employees and middle management, as well as between management and upper management.
This book is concerned mostly with daily interactions at the employee level. The system and skills taught can be applied to any interaction in the business and personal life. Management systems are often well thought out and well structured, but quite often, they do not lend themselves to the chaotic, on-the-spot timber of human interactions. The Tao of Human Communications is a system rooted in present-moment fluid interactions. An incisive case for trans justice from a powerful new voice

In this brilliant introduction to trans politics, journalist Shon Faye gives an incisive overview of systemic transphobia and argues that the struggle for trans rights is necessary to any struggle for social justice.

So often, Faye argues, trans people are understood as a "side issue," the subjects of a toxic and increasingly polarized debate which generates reliable controversy for newspapers and talk shows. This media frenzy conceals a simple fact: that we are having the wrong conversation, a conversation in which trans people themselves are reduced to a talking point and denied a meaningful voice.

With skill, rigor, and heart, Faye uncovers the reality of what it means to be trans in a transphobic society. In this compellingly readable study, she explores issues of class, family, housing, healthcare, sex work, the prison system, and trans participation in the LGBTQ+ and feminist communities. What she finds, ultimately, is that when we fight for trans liberation, we fight for a better world for us all.

Christopher Phillips has devoted his life to carrying the torch of Socrates and his quest to "Know Thyself." Yet upon the death of his beloved father and mentor, the originator of the burgeoning global Socrates Café movement had little choice but to confront the inescapable truth: that there are some things we cannot know for sure. This moving, insightful and ultimately hopeful and helpful blend of memoir and philosophical exploration begins in Phillips' native stomping grounds of the island of Nisyros, Greece and unfurls through space and time as the author explores the connections between his immediate circumstances and the eternal wisdom of popular philosophers.

In this personal and probing book, the acclaimed 'philosopher for the people' shares lessons gleaned from his intimate and often unexpected encounters with uncommonly perceptive human beings both living and long deceased. Along the way, he charts a pathway for sculpting what Shakespeare describes as a "soul of goodness," which meshes with Plato's paradigm-shattering conception of the "healthiness of soul." For those struggling to overcome the hopelessness that can result from grievous loss, setback, or betrayal, the author spotlights how to cultivate a 'Socratic spirit' that leads to renewed love, forbearance, and hope at the other end of the tunnel.
