Sinossi

Plains Farms Blend delves into the intricate relationship between Plains tribes and the land, particularly focusing on how these communities integrate their cultural heritage with modern ranching practices. The book highlights the historical context of land dispossession and its profound impact, while also showcasing how tribes strategically adapt ranching as a means of asserting sovereignty and maintaining a connection to their ancestral lands. It explores the preservation efforts undertaken by tribes, demonstrating how traditional values are interwoven with contemporary agricultural techniques. The book challenges stereotypical portrayals by emphasizing the resilience and adaptability of Native Americans. For example, the integration of indigenous food systems with modern agriculture demonstrates a commitment to both economic self-sufficiency and cultural revitalization. The book progresses across chapters, starting with a historical overview, then examining current ranching practices, and finally exploring innovative strategies that blend traditional ecological knowledge with modern agriculture, offering a holistic understanding of the issues. Through a narrative non-fiction approach, Plains Farms Blend combines historical analysis with personal stories, making it accessible to a broad audience interested in Native American history, agricultural sustainability, or rural community development. By addressing ongoing debates about land rights and resource management, it aims to foster a more nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Plains tribes today.

Everybody wants to be happy. Everybody is on a happiness quest. For many, happiness is measured in moments. Experiences. It's elusive. Unsustainable. What about you? What makes you happy? Something comes to mind for each of us.
In this six-session audio Bible study, pastor Andy Stanley examines the ways in which we tend to define happiness and explains how that definition influences the way we pursue it. He reveals that happiness is about who, not what, and that happy people are at peace with God, with others, and with themselves. He also shows how sin undermines peace because it separates us from God, others, and ourselves by substituting pleasure for fulfillment, things for people, images for intimacy, and self-expression for self-control.
We are often tempted to believe that happiness comes from acquiring things, but happiness is actually an outcome of what we sow in our lives. We can’t acquire, consume, or exercise our way to happiness, but we may be able to serve and volunteer our way there. In the end, we find that if we live as if it’s all about us, we will never be happy.

“A fascinating, comprehensive, and accessible exploration of life’s most fundamental questions. If you’re wondering who we are and why we’re here, this book is a great place to start.”—Mark Gober, award-winning author of An End to Upside Down Thinking and board member at the Institute of Noetic SciencesIs our physical universe actually a virtual simulation that is thought into existence by consciousness? Noted astrophysicist Bernard Haisch explores the frontiers of science, consciousness, and God, revolutionizing our understanding of the universe and what’s behind it all.Have you ever wondered why and how the world around you came to exist and whether there might be another experience awaiting you after the physical body dies? Might there actually be a God and a heaven of some sort? Without consciousness there is nothing. The hypothesis presented in this book is that our seemingly physical universe of matter and energy is a virtual simulation which is thought into existence by a universal consciousness which we call God. Authors Bernard Haisch and Marsha Sims tackle age-old metaphysical questions such as the following:Are near-death experiences real? What is the zero-point field? What kind of being could God be?Is there some place that God could have come from? How does the Big Bang figure into this?It there an afterlife, and what could it be like? What is the purpose of life?Is consciousness all there is?Is the universe a virtual reality? Why is hell impossible?

    Norse Mythology: The History of...

Much of what is known of the Norse myths comes from the 10th century onwards. Until this time and, indeed, for centuries afterwards, Norse culture (particularly that of Iceland, where the myths were eventually transcribed) was an oral culture. In fact, in all Scandinavian countries well into the 13th century laws were memorized by officials known as “Lawspeakers” who recited them at the “Thing.” The Thing was the legislative assembly in Scandinavia “held for judicial purposes.”
One of the most famous of these Lawspeakers was the Icelander Snorri Sturluson, a masterful writer who wrote the Prose Edda in the thirteenth century. There are other sources for the Norse myths, namely the later “Poetic Edda,” a collection of poems and prose work, and other sagas but the Snorri’s Prose Edda is the most complete work whose attribution is known to modern scholars.
The Prose Edda is a collection of Norse Myths split into three sections, the Gylfaginning (the Deluding of Gylfi), the Skáldskaparmál (the Language of Poetry) and the Háttatal (the Enumeration of Meters). The first has a frame story that entails a Swedish King, Gylfi, disguising himself as an old man, Gangleri, when he journeys to Asgard to meet the gods. When he arrives, he meets three men - “High One, Just-As-High, and Third” - who reveal to him stories of the world and the gods. The second section contains a warning for Christians not to believe in the Norse gods, specifically the two families, the Aesir and the Vanir, but also refutes the notion that they were demons, which was a common supposition among some Christians at the time. The Prose Edda begins in this line of thought with a euhemeristic prologue, which traces the history of the Norse Gods as human heroes of Troy, making Thor one of King Priam’s sons.
