~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
Jasmine's eyes were focused on a handsome young man sitting alone only two tables away. The handsome gentleman could not help but notice the offers and refusals to join her. He was not one to accept rejections so he was content to watch the dancers while enjoying the buzz from his glass of draft beer. It was inevitable that the eyes of Jasmine and Branden would meet. Finally, she smiled and gave him the peace sign with her fingers. He thought, If that ain't a come-on, I don't know what one is.
When he approached her table, he asked, “What did I do to deserve your attention?”
“Sit down, buy us another round, and we'll talk about it,” she answered.
Branden flagged a topless waitress for two more drafts. When she spun around after collecting her tip, he was stimulated to view her pretty legs and thong panties betrayed by her micro-skirt.
Jasmine smiled at his ogling and said, “For now let's just say that I love those waves of thick brown hair and big brown eyes to match. You obviously appreciate the beauty of the human body or you wouldn't be here to beer served beer by near naked women. Looks can be deceiving but looking at you, I think you're a safe bet. Let's get acquainted.”
“You're about right on all counts,” Branden said as he flagged down another topless waitress to buy another round. After some friendly small talk and two more beers each, Jasmine said,
“Okay, ya hunk, here's what's happening: Yes, we like each other and are most likely compatible. Rather than say I'm horny, I prefer to think I'm forever in the mood for love, but we can't make magic tonight. I think it's safe for me to think you would not respect me if we gave it a try. If the fantasy, if the fantasy came true, I would not respect myself.”
Branden looked directly into Jasmine's pretty, big green eyes and said, “It looks like we are forever on the same page. May we part for the night with your giving me your phone number. By the way, what's your name?”
“Jasmine, what's yours?”
“Branden.”
She wrote her name and phone number on a napkin and said, “I love to dine and dance.” The first thought that came to Branden's mind was, I bet this girl would make a lovely pole dancer.
Branden called Jasmine the very next day. She accepted his offer for a date and she gave him her address. He was pleased to find that Jasmine lived in an upscale condominium tract. After introducing him to her parents, he took her to the finest dinner house in Salinas that also had a dance floor with a live band playing mostly upbeat 60s hard rock and psychedelic music. Branden felt like Jasmine was the best dancer with whom he had ever danced, and it seemed as if she had an endless reserve of energy. When she twirled, the full length of her lovely legs was proudly showing along with her thong panties.
    A history based on interviews with hundreds of Ukrainian Jews who survived both Hitler and Stalin, recounting experiences ordinary and extraordinary.
    The story of how the Holocaust decimated Jewish life in the shtetls of Eastern Europe is well known. Still, thousands of Jews in these small towns survived the war and returned afterward to rebuild their communities. The recollections of some four hundred returnees in Ukraine provide the basis for Jeffrey Veidlinger’s reappraisal of the traditional narrative of twentieth-century Jewish history.
    These elderly Yiddish speakers relate their memories of Jewish life in the prewar shtetl, their stories of survival during the Holocaust, and their experiences living as Jews under Communism. Despite Stalinist repressions, the Holocaust, and official antisemitism, their individual remembrances of family life, religious observance, education, and work testify to the survival of Jewish life in the shadow of the shtetl to this day.
    Curiosity - Farmers Discovering...
    Farming and ranching success comes from the freedom to fail because there is no silver bullet. Curiosity – Farmers Discovering What Works tells journeys farmers make to find solutions that are kinder to the environment, easier on the pocket and bring purpose, pride and confidence to those in the most complex profession there is. Each story has nuggets of inspiration and insight to stimulate observation and logic in farming matters.
    John's perspectives are associated with the practices and principles of Allan Savory's Holistic Management, which though habits and routines, changes how farmers observe, question and probe for solutions. John teaches this in New Zealand and assists with farmers around the globe as a tutor for Holistic Management International. John draws on similarly minded farmers and experts such as Joel Salatin, Gabe Brown, Allan Nation, Allen Williams, Fred Provenza, Christine Jones, Charles Massy and others offering commercial farmers new directions and insights.
    Reviews include:
    …his purposeful “short, sharp” essays are designed for busy people. “Hopefully it’s style will remind you of Allan Nation.” Yes, John King did indeed capture Allan’s wise pithiness. I found myself underlining or circling something in virtually every essay. It’s dense, packed with sensible advice gleaned from dozens of on-farm experiments over numerous decades. Joel Salatin, editor, Stockman Grass Farmer, Missouri, USA
    This invaluable and important book should be compulsory reading for anyone daring to manage farming landscapes with an eye to contributing to healthier farmscapes and catchments, rural families and their animals, and to a sustainable future. How I wish I could have read and lived in such a book as this when I was a young farmer preparing to make all the mistakes. A farming, social, and environmental gem. Charles Massy, author, Call of the Reed Warbler
