Sinossi

Rough and Ready: Life Among the New York Newsboys written by Horatio Alger, Jr. who was a prolific 19th-century American writer. "Rough and Ready" is presented to the public as the fourth volume of the "Ragged Dick Series," and, like two of its predecessors, was contributed as a serial to the "Schoolmate," a popular juvenile magazine. Its second title, "Life among the New York Newsboys," describes its character and purpose. While the young hero may be regarded as a favorable example of his class, the circumstances of his lot, aggravated by the persecutions of an intemperate parent, are unfortunately too common, as any one at all familiar with the history of the neglected street children in our cities will readily acknowledge. This book was published in 1869. And now republish in ebook format. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. This story by Alice Muriel Williamson has its feet firmly planted in a mix of genres, and manages to thrill and entertain in equal measure. A woman in distress, a handsome hero, a dangerous villain, physical action, psychological suspense and real scares all cohabit in this classic tale with quite a bit of a gothic feel to it: "Never, it seemed to me, had I seen a habitation so grim, so silently suggestive of haunting, evil things… The wind moaned through the trees like the wail of a lost soul." Artist Bio Author: Alice Muriel Williamson (1869-1933), was an English novelist. Many of her books were written jointly with her husband Charles Norris Williamson. Artist Bio Jack Brown: Jack Brown is a passionate reader of classic and genre oriented literature. He enjoys creating high quality audio books.
