Sinossi

Syria, 2014. In the town of Kobane, there's a siege as fierce as Stalingrad. ISIS, having steam-rollered through Iraq, are expecting to take the town easily. But the citizens have found a heroine: a crackshot sniper with 100 kills to her name. And she appears indestructible. She's the legendary Angel of Kobane.
Inspired by an extraordinary true story, Angel is part of Henry Naylor's Arabian Nightmares trilogy. It was first performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016, where it won a Fringe First award.

Whether we understand it or recognise it, it is women who have shaped the course and journey of humanity. We are all born from women and usually raised by women. Half the world’s population is female but many of them are trodden down by misogyny, religious misinterpretation, failing systems of education and welfare and all manner of other ills that shame us all. In a world where, gender, colour, race and orientation are still stumbling blocks to inclusion, women’s words are too often unheard and neglected.

Whilst the world has moved measurably forward in recent decades, although not enough, some progress has been made. Our poets wrote at a time when their basic rights as human beings were restrictive and oppressive. Against the odds, they were able to write verse, which in varying degrees, moved the literary needle and perhaps influenced their society in positive ways.

This volume pays tribute to 50 different women poets, some well-known whilst others undeservedly forgotten but all contributing a single poem which we hope might nudge listeners to discover more of their verse.

The Rape of Lucrece (1594) is a narrative poem by William Shakespeare about the legendary Lucretia. Lucrece draws on the story described in both Ovid's Fasti and Livy's history of Rome. In 509 BC, Sextus Tarquinius, son of Tarquin, the king of Rome, raped Lucretia (Lucrece), wife of Collatinus, one of the king's aristocratic retainers. As a result, Lucrece committed suicide. Her body was paraded in the Roman Forum by the king's nephew. This incited a full-scale revolt against the Tarquins led by Lucius Junius Brutus, the banishment of the royal family, and the founding of the Roman republic. (Summary by Wikipedia)

On 15 October 2011 Occupy London makes camp outside St Paul's Cathedral. On 21 October 2011 a building that had kept open through floods, the Blitz and terrorist threats closes its doors. On 28 October City of London initiates legal action against Occupy to begin removing them from outside the Cathedral...
Steve Waters' play is a fictional account of these events, set in the heart of a very British crisis - a crisis of conscience, a crisis of authority and a crisis of faith.
Temple was premiered at the Donmar Warehouse, London, in May 2015 in a production starring Simon Russell Beale, directed by Howard Davies.
'A triumph... [Goes] behind the head-lines, and closed ecclesiastical doors, to produce a riveting drama that unpicks the institutional and psychological turmoil the [Occupy London] saga caused' - Daily Telegraph
'Waters takes real figures and real events and transforms them into a fictional account that plays like High Noon... 90 minutes of barbed politesse that never lets up... rich and ambiguous and funny and fundamental... quietly stunning... a marvellous show' - The Times

Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant and ambitious young student, discovers the secret of creating life from the remains of the dead. But elation at his triumph is replaced by horror when he sees his monstrous creation. Abandoned by the one who made him, Frankenstein's Creature is left to a world that fears and rejects him, and soon his innocence turns to misery - and a murderous desire for revenge...
Every word in Patrick Sandford's 'vigorous adaptation' (The Times) is lifted directly from Mary Shelley's classic gothic novel. One of the greatest horror stories of all time, and one that still grips readers today almost two hundred years after its first publication.
All the more successful for staying faithful to the dark spirit of the original book, this adaptation includes notes on the first production and can be performed with a minimum of set and props, making it well suited for staging by schools and amateur theatre groups, as well as by professional companies.
    'Atmospheric… haunting… with splendid Gothic horror touches… a truly impressive theatrical experience' - ReviewsGate.com
