Sinossi

The acclaimed author of The Tropic of Cancer recounts his 1928 trip to the City of Light and his troubled second marriage in this vivid memoir.

Published for the first time in English, Paris 1928 (Nexus II) continues in true Henry Miller fashion the narrative begun in Nexus, the third volume of the Rosy Crucifixion trilogy. A rough draft that Miller ultimately abandoned, the story describes Miller’s first wondrous glimpse of Paris and underscores several of the recurrent themes of his work. These previously unpublished memoirs capture Miller’s troubled relationship with his second wife, June; reflections on what he left behind in New York’s sweltering summer of 1927; and the anticipation of all that awaits him in Europe. Paris 1928 presents Miller’s views on Europe on the brink of great changes, counterpointed by his own personal sexual revelry and freedom of choice. Illustrations in this edition are by Australian artist and filmmaker Garry Shead.

“This book is an important piece of literary history, offering different perspectives on people and places that Miller wrote about elsewhere.” —James M. Decker

"A gut-wrenching story told with honesty, restraint, and dignity." —Ha Jin, National Book Award-winning author of Waiting

Chanrithy Him felt compelled to tell of surviving life under the Khmer Rouge in a way "worthy of the suffering which I endured as a child."

In a mesmerizing story, Chanrithy Him vividly recounts her trek through the hell of the "killing fields." She gives us a child's-eye view of a Cambodia where rudimentary labor camps for both adults and children are the norm and modern technology no longer exists. Death becomes a companion in the camps, along with illness. Yet through the terror, the members of Chanrithy's family remain loyal to one another, and she and her siblings who survive will find redeemed lives in America.

MAYA BLUE: A Memoir of Survival is Working Girl meets Taken, a true story of love, cocaine, abduction, and survival, and in the end, Brenda Coffee is the last one standing. Recipient of the coveted Kirkus starred review and nominated for the prestigious 2025 Kirkus Prize, MAYA BLUE is a memoir that reads like a thriller, a compelling, fast-paced story that underscores the power of our voice.
"It was a fairy tale until it wasn't... " For a long time, that's what successful businesswoman Brenda Coffee told herself whenever she dared to look back on her twenties and thirties. The memories of what really happened were hidden in the back of her emotional closet.
At twenty-one, Brenda did almost anything her charismatic and powerful older husband, Philip Ray, wanted. Regardless of whether it was dangerous, adventurous, sexual, or illegal, she wanted to be the one woman he couldn’t live without. With unflinching honesty and written and narrated in first person present, Brenda pulls the listener into the life she once lived—and all the secrecy, madness, trauma, abuse, and danger that came with a brilliant and revered husband who learned to make cocaine in the basement, and after his death, when Brenda was taken at gunpoint in Guatemala.
The author has narrated this powerful and moving memoir, and at times, she breaks down in tears. MAYA BLUE is an inspiring reminder of our universal capacity to survive the unspeakable.

Thomas More - A Portrait of Courage

One of history’s most admired figures and one of the great lawyers and statesmen of all time, Thomas More was voted “Lawyer of the Millennium” by the Law Society of Great Britain and named “Patron of Statesmen” by John Paul II. More combined immense humanistic learning with an unequaled command of the legal and political traditions of Christendom, forging a profound philosophy of statesmanship and freedom. To this philosophic and cultural achievement, More added the virtues of an exemplary husband, father, and friend and the detachment and interior peace of a saint. He thus emerged from the first great crisis of modern tyranny—a crisis that would claim his life—as the model of a truly free man, whose conscience and character no despot can subvert. More was canonized in 1935, as Hitler was rising to power and the world needed an example of courage and skill in the face of the greatest of dangers.
This biography reveals how More prepared himself for the challenges of his life, and how he rose to the demands placed upon him in what became one of history’s most revolutionary periods.
Thomas More is more important at this moment than at any moment since his death, even perhaps the great moment of his dying; but he is not quite so important as he will be in about a hundred years’ time. ~ G. K. Chesterton, 1929
