Summary

Henry Ford was an engineer, entrepreneur, Founder of the Ford Motor Company, the largest company in the world at the time, and an extraordinary entrepreneur. Ford was the first entrepreneur to apply mass assembly in order to produce a large number of cars in less time and at a lower cost. Henry Ford's ideas changed all the thinking of the time, and it was through them that the mechanization of work, mass production, and the standardization of machinery and equipment developed. In this autobiography that is part of the collection The Entrepreneurs, Ford describes his first encounter with automobiles and a bit of his history before he founded Ford Motor and how he worked to make it become the largest company in the world. Henry Ford also introduces the reader to his views on business, industry and mass production, wages and money, social concerns and charity, and how he applied the principles of the Ford Motor Company factories to a school, hospital, and railroad. HENRY FORD: My life, my work, an ebook illustrated with photos of the time, with a preface by our great writer Monteiro Lobato, is an extremely interesting and educational book for those who want to know the entrepreneur Henry Ford and his ideas, as well as the second industrial revolution in the words of those who participated in its construction.

The shocking, tell-all memoir from '90s popstar and heart-throb formerly known as KavanaBorn in Manchester in 1977, Anthony Kavanagh's rise to fame was stratospheric, scoring a record deal at the age of just eighteen and winning the much-coveted Smash Hits Male Artist of the Year Award in 1997, all the while achieving top ten hits, appearing on countless magazine covers, performing on Top of the Pops and gigging alongside the Spice Girls. The stuff that dreams are made of. But Anthony - or Kavana as he came to be known - was also trying to keep his sexuality a secret while navigating his way through an industry where image was everything; where his success depended on him having to be exactly who he wasn't.What followed was a dark and dangerous spiral into addiction, an illness that would insidiously follow and baffle him for years to come. Pop Scars is a story told with fearless honesty that's at times as funny as it is heartbreaking, chronicling the highs, the lows, the self-destruction and the chaos of hitting rock bottom and then finding out that rock bottom has a basement.Thirty years on, Anthony is ready to tell his jaw-dropping story. Pop Scars is a book about teenage stardom, fame, addiction, grief and - ultimately - survival and sobriety.

In life, we don't always make the best decisions. We fall flat on our faces. We get back up. We fall again. Some people around us try to make us feel bad for our decisions and choices. Yet, most of them have never walked a mile in our shoes. They didn't have to think and process things we did. We can take all the accountability in the world, yet those people will never be satisfied. I did the best I could with what I had. No, I didn't choose correctly. I did what I could with the situation at hand. What happened helped shape who I am now. It does not define me. Why? Because I'm still standing here.

Fierce and Delicate - Essays on...

    Renee K. Nicholson

Renée Nicholson’s professional training in ballet had both moments of magnificence and moments of torment, from fittings of elaborate platter tutus to strange language barriers and unrealistic expectations of the body. In Fierce and Delicate, she looks back on the often confused and driven self she had been shaped into—always away from home, with friends who were also rivals, influenced by teachers in ways sometimes productive and at other times bordering on sadistic—and finds beauty in the small roles she performed. When, inevitably, Nicholson moved on from dancing, severed from her first love by illness, she discovered that she retained the lyricism and narrative of ballet itself as she negotiated life with rheumatoid arthritis.
An intentionally fractured memoir-in-essays, Fierce and Delicate navigates the traditional geographies of South Florida, northern Michigan, New York City, Milwaukee, West Virginia, and also geographies of the body—long, supple limbs; knee replacements; remembered bodies and actual. It is a book about the world of professional dance and also about living with chronic disease, about being shattered yet realizing the power to assemble oneself again, in a new way.
