Summary

Step into a timeless world of wonder with Hans Christian Andersen: Collected Works, a masterful anthology that gathers the most enchanting fairy tales and deeply reflective travel sketches of one of literature's greatest storytellers. From the icy enchantment of The Snow Queen and the heartbreaking beauty of The Little Match Girl, to the whimsical charm of The Emperor's New Clothes and the haunting allegory of The Shadow, Andersen's tales blend fantasy, morality, and universal truths that continue to resonate with readers of all ages. This edition also reveals a lesser-known side of Andersen through his travel writings, capturing the landscapes, people, and cultures of 19th-century Scandinavia with poetic sensitivity. Carefully curated and presented in a single volume, this collection celebrates the genius of Andersen—his ability to speak to children with simplicity, and to adults with depth. A treasure chest of magic, philosophy, and human insight, this book is not only a keepsake but a portal into the heart of imagination.

Seattle band, The Gits and their charismatic front person Mia Zapata were on the verge of international rock stardom but on July 7, 1993, days before their third United States tour, Mia Zapata, The Gits twenty-seven-year-old singer-songwriter, was brutally assaulted and murdered by a stranger. Zapata's death sent chilling ripples through progressive communities throughout the United States. She became a cause-celebre for women's rights activists outraged by the brutal killing and lack of law enforcement support. This book reclaims Zapata's story to focus on the art she and The Gits created and not her tragic end.

Much has been written and said about her murder, yet Zapata's life and work remain overshadowed by the circumstances of her death. Zapata's friend and bandmate, Steve Moriarty, tells her story—and the story of their band, The Gits—from their first meeting in 1985 to their last goodbye.

The Gits's story is more than a biography; it's a testament to the ability of artists and musicians to challenge the status quo and the power of friendship to change the world. Moriarty reframes the sensationalist story as he shares his personal narrative and presents, with intimacy, grit, and humor, the lived experience of The Gits and his dear friend, Mia Zapata.

Barry Eric Odell Pain was born at 3 Sydney Street in Cambridge on 28th September 1864. He was one of 4 children.
He was educated at Sedbergh School and then Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.
In 1889, Cornhill Magazine published his short story ‘The Hundred Gates’. This opened the way for Pain to advance his literary career on several fronts. He became a contributor to Punch and The Speaker, as well as joining the staff of both the Daily Chronicle and Black and White.
Pain was also a noted and prominent contributor to The Granta and from 1896 to 1928 a regular contributor to the Windsor Magazine.
It is often said that Pain was discovered by Robert Louis Stevenson, who compared his work to that of Guy de Maupassant. It’s an apt comparison. Pain was a master of disturbing prose but was also able to inject parody and light comedy into many of his works. A simple premise could in his hands suddenly expand into a world very real but somehow emotionally fraught and on the very edge of darkness.
Barry Pain died on 5th May 1928 in Bushey, Hertfordshire.

A deeply personal motherhood memoir about how the challenges moms face daily sharpen them into stronger, braver, and better parents for their children.

Motherhood is hard. It's full of plenty of moments where a mom might think, “I don’t know if I can do this.”

Danielle Sherman-Lazar has had this thought many times as she’s raised her four young daughters under 10, from her struggles with breastfeeding to two of her daughters’ stays at the NICU. Through personal and honest stories on motherhood and her struggles with eating disorders, Mothers are Made shows how moms aren’t instantly born along with their babies—mothers are made through time and experience. It's when mothers go through the fire, Danielle argues, that we are forged into resilient, brave, and courageous parents.Danielle's writing is raw and relatable, and she shows how overcoming challenges with eating disorders, then facing the challenges of perfectionism, self-doubt, anxiety, and loneliness has given her tremendous inner strength, resilience, and confidence. Through real stories full of honesty, love, tenderness, and humor, she reminds her readers that they, too, have the knowledge and tenacity to persevere through any obstacle.

Mothers are Made will help moms realize that they can handle crises as they arise—large or small. And they will recognize that they are not alone in their struggles. Danielle’s vulnerability will help readers find the courage to keep going through the uncomfortable parts of motherhood, knowing they’ll get to the other side—a better, happier, and stronger mom.
