The film, television, and comedy legend tells the hilarious and moving story of how tough love, and a sense of humor made him the man he is today
By the tender age of five, Bernie Mac had found his calling: making others laugh. He has since become the star and cocreator of Fox’s hit sitcom The Bernie Mac Show; a stand-up legend; and a hit movie star in Head of State and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. Now this amazing comedian delves deep down inside to retell the poignant and hilarious story of his childhood and the people who helped shape him into the comedian—and the strong and self-reliant man—he is today.
When young Bernie Mac lost his beloved mother to breast cancer, and faced an astounding number of other hardships, he remembered the “Mac-isms” she taught him: You have to meet all of the challenges, big and small. Because how you start is how you finish. If you want a helping hand, look at the end of your arm. These tough-love lessons gave him an inner strength that led him to choose hope over despair, and to follow his dreams. Maybe You Never Cry Again is a powerful testament to how a mother’s love made everything possible for Bernie Mac by teaching him to believe in himself.

Craze begins in early ’90s Sydney’s underground rave scene—but it doesn’t stay there.
Written by record store owner, underground DJ, and community organiser Stephan Győry, Craze is not just a memoir of the Second Summer of Love or history of electronic dance music —although those two themes remain prominent throughout the book
At its core, Craze It is an investigation into what happens when a generation grows up without functioning rites of passage—and has to invent its own.
Drawing on lived experience, psychology, anthropology, drug culture, music history, and spiritual inquiry, Craze traces a thirty-year attempt to reverse-engineer adulthood from first principles. Along the way, it moves through raves, relationships, religion, altered states, breakdowns, breakthroughs, and the slow reconstruction of meaning.
This is not a book about drugs, despite what it contains.
It is not a book about raves, despite where it starts.
And it is not a manifesto, despite its convictions.
At its heart, Craze is about initiation without elders: how misfired rites of passage show up as anxiety, guilt, masculinity crises, spiritual confusion, and cultural collapse—and how they might be resolved without superstition, dogma, or denial.
What sets Craze apart is its epistemic honesty. Győry shows his working. When he’s wrong, he says so. When he overreaches, he corrects. When something breaks him, he documents the cost. The result is persuasive without being evangelical, rigorous without being sterile, and grounded without being small.
Craze is for people who feel that something is wrong—with masculinity, with religion, with adulthood, with modern life—but refuse simple answers.
Part cultural history, part psychological autopsy, part personal reckoning, Craze gives language to experiences many people have lived through privately and incoherently.

When blues master Robert Johnson's recordings were rereleased to great fanfare in the 1960s, little was known about his life, giving rise to legends that he gained success by selling his soul to the devil. Biography of a Phantom is musicologist Mack McCormick's search, from the late 1960s until McCormick's death in 2015, to uncover Johnson's life story. McCormick spent decades reconstructing Johnson's mysterious life and developing theories about his untimely death at the age of 27, but never made public his discoveries. Biography of a Phantom publishes his compelling work for the first time.

While sleuthing for Johnson's loved ones and friends, McCormick documents a Mississippi landscape ravaged by the racism of paternalistic white landowners and county sheriffs. An editor's preface and afterword from Smithsonian curator John W. Troutman provides context as well as troubling details about McCormick's own impact on Johnson's family and illuminates through McCormick's archive the complex legacy of white male enthusiasts assuming authority over Black people's stories and the history of the blues.

While Johnson died before achieving widespread recognition, his music took on a life of its own and inspired future generations. Biography of a Phantom is an important historical object that deepens the understanding of a stellar musician.

It’s almost Bid’s birthday and Spid is worried. He wants it to be Bid’s best birthday ever because she is his most favourite spidling in the whole wide world. But there’s a problem. No matter how hard he thinks, he doesn’t have a single birthday present idea anywhere in his worried head …This audiobook features two songs: 'Birthday Girl' and 'It's My Birthday'. You can also find music videos of the songs at https://spidthespider.com and https://www.youtube.com/spidthespider. Spid is a lowly spider, who wants to better himself, write songs, and marry his girlfriend Bid, though he is prone to hilarious mishaps mostly of his own making. He is hard-working, cool, and a role model for young children. As well as encouraging children to read and love books, Spid's adventures also teach valuable life lessons, including determination and what psychologists call a 'growth mindset' (desire to better oneself and succeed), the importance of friendship, and sustainability. With very creative prose, Spid's adventures are fun for parents, and teachers to read to, and with, their children. They present lots of opportunities to invest dramatic licence thus helping adults and children interact and engage. The humour works at multiple levels from silly and slapstick to more sophisticated wordplay and concepts. Thus, children will discover more and enjoy reading the stories multiple times.
