The Internet stock bubble wasn't just about goggle-eyed day traderstrying to get rich on the Nasdaq and goateed twenty-five-year-olds playing wannabe Bill Gates. It was also about an America that believed it had discovered the secret of eternal prosperity: it said something about all of us, and what we thought about ourselves, as the twenty-first century dawned. John Cassidy's Dot.con brings this tumultuous episode to life. Moving from the Cold War Pentagon to Silicon Valley to Wall Street and into the homes of millions of Americans, Cassidy tells the story of the great boom and bust in an authoritative and entertaining narrative. Featuring all the iconic figures of the Internet era -- Marc Andreessen, Jeff Bezos, Steve Case, Alan Greenspan, and many others -- and with a new Afterword on the aftermath of the bust, Dot.con is a panoramic and stirring account of human greed and gullibility.

A stirring tribute to America’s mightiest river by one of its greatest authors Before Samuel Clemens became Mark Twain, world-famous satirist and the acclaimed creator of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, he trained to be a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River.   In this captivating memoir and travelogue, Twain recounts his apprenticeship under legendary captain Horace Bixby, an exacting mentor who teaches his charge how to navigate the ever-changing waterway. The colorful details of life on the river—from the reversals of fortune suffered by riverboat gamblers to the feuds waged by towns seeking to profit from the steamboat trade—fascinate Twain, and in his hands become the stuff of legend. Years later, as a passenger on a voyage from St. Louis to New Orleans, he vividly describes the stunning changes wrought by the Civil War and the steady advance of the railroads.   A valuable piece of history and a revealing look at the origins of a national treasure, Life on the Mississippi is a true classic of American literature.   This ebook has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices.

He is the former Executive Director of the New England Publishers Association which was sold and re-founded as the Independent Publishers of New England. David toured the seven states of New York and New England with his "Professor Lecture Series" for 11 years from 2004 to 2015.Since 1998, David has been a radio talk show host, TV producer, filmmaker, and publicity event manager. This branch out to other media formats has made him a subject matter expert on digital multimedia technology. As a touring professor, David K. Ewen, M.Ed. has lectured on a variety of media topics related to digital multimedia technology, entrepreneurial studies, marketing, publicity, and business adventurism. This memoir is a matter of record and a testimony showing that hard work and perseverance driven by passion results in good things. It also includes an understanding that a faith in our God and His Will is incorporated into successful elements of people's lives. David Ewen did not know this in the early stages of his entrepreneurial career, but after nearly a quarter of a century of experience, this has been proven to be evident. This is a discussion of David Ewen’s entrepreneurial experience that will shed light on what truly defines success in business without having to become wealthy. The purpose is to show that wealth does not define success. The best way to describe success is when you enjoy what you are doing and are good at it. Every entrepreneur has a parent or a mentor who always says to them I want you to be happy. That is what David’s parents said to him and that's what his pastors say to him. David Ewen says that he is happy.

The 50th Anniversary edition of “the book that changed baseball” (NPR), chosen by Time magazine as one of the “100 Greatest Non-Fiction” books.   When Ball Four was published in 1970, it created a firestorm. Bouton was called a Judas, a Benedict Arnold, and a “social leper” for having violated the “sanctity of the clubhouse.” Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn tried to force Bouton to sign a statement saying the book wasn’t true. Ballplayers, most of whom hadn’t read it, denounced the book. It was even banned by a few libraries.   Almost everyone else, however, loved Ball Four. Fans liked discovering that athletes were real people—often wildly funny people. David Halberstam, who won a Pulitzer for his reporting on Vietnam, wrote a piece in Harper’s that said of Bouton: “He has written . . . a book deep in the American vein, so deep in fact that it is by no means a sports book.”   Today Ball Four has taken on another role—as a time capsule of life in the sixties. “It is not just a diary of Bouton’s 1969 season with the Seattle Pilots and Houston Astros,” says sportswriter Jim Caple. “It’s a vibrant, funny, telling history of an era that seems even further away than four decades. To call it simply a ‘tell all book’ is like describing The Grapes of Wrath as a book about harvesting peaches in California.”   Includes a new foreword by Jim Bouton's wife, Paula Kurman   “An irreverent, best-selling book that angered baseball’s hierarchy and changed the way journalists and fans viewed the sports world.” —The Washington Post

Le Rime (in English, The Rhymes) are the collection of lyric poems written by Dante Alighieri throughout his life. While the rest of Dante's works were prepared by himself for publication, these poems were written by him in letters, as parts of other works or independently, but only collected and ordered much later, by modern critics. Among these is found the famous collection of Rime Petrose, a cycle of poems dedicated to a woman nicknamed Pietra (Stone) due to her insensibility to the poet's love. As the work of a whole life, the poems are varied, and mirror the many different moments of Dante's thoughts, both poetically and philosophically. - Summary by Leni
