The First King of England is a foundational biography of Æthelstan (d. 939), the early medieval king whose territorial conquests and shrewd statesmanship united the peoples, languages, and cultures that would come to be known as the “kingdom of the English.”Set against the backdrop of warring powers in early medieval Europe, The First King of England sheds new light on Æthelstan’s early life, his spectacular military victories and the innovative way he governed his kingdom, his fostering of the church, the deft political alliances he forged with Europe’s royal houses, and his death and enduring legacy. It begins with the reigns of Alfred the Great and Edward the Elder, Æthelstan’s grandfather and father, describing how they consolidated and expanded the “kingdom of the Anglo-Saxons.” But it was Æthelstan who would declare himself the first king of all England when, in 927, he conquered the viking kingdom at York, required the submission of a Scottish king, and secured an annual tribute from the Welsh kings. The First King of England is the most comprehensive, up-to-date biography of Æthelstan available, bringing a magisterial richness of detail to the life of a consequential British monarch whose strategic and political sophistication was unprecedented for his time.

This book consists of 4 titles, which are:
    - From Normandy to the Rhine: The liberation of Western Europe in the Second World War remains one of the most significant military campaigns in history. The Allied push from Normandy to the Rhine marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, culminating in its eventual surrender in May 1945. However, the path to victory was neither smooth nor inevitable. It was a campaign marked by intense fighting, strategic challenges, and the determination of soldiers from across the globe.
    - Patton's Push: General George S. Patton was one of the most influential military leaders of the 20th century, his name forever linked with boldness, aggression, and relentless pursuit of victory. His legacy as a tactical genius in World War II is undisputed, particularly for his innovative strategies and dynamic leadership during key campaigns in Europe. Patton’s approach to warfare, characterized by rapid movement, audacity, and the application of psychological warfare, was a departure from traditional military doctrine and left an indelible mark on modern military tactics.
    - Operation Overlord: Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, stands as one of the most significant military operations in modern history. Known globally as D-Day, it marked the beginning of the end of Nazi occupation in Western Europe and paved the way for the eventual defeat of Adolf Hitler’s regime.
    - Resistance Fighters: The story of resistance fighters during the Nazi occupation of Europe is one of extraordinary courage and sacrifice. While the grand battles of World War II are well-documented, the covert operations of ordinary individuals working against overwhelming odds often remain in the shadows. These resistance movements, comprised of men, women, and even children, were vital in undermining the Nazi regime and aiding the Allied forces.

Two brothers in conflict sire half-twin sons, as they battle to determine the fate of a property dynasty. Intertwined conflict and humour are the lifestyle hallmarks of the relationship between 18 year old twins Aaron and Josh. Aaron, as the too-young manager of the family's large rural property, sees himself as in his rightful position. Josh (as a worker on the property) sees his own rightful position as not having to take orders from Aaron. One instance of their difficult relationship results in Josh having to take the blame for Aaron's irresponsible driving, when Aaron nearly causes a head-on collision with a Highway Patrol car. Tash (Aaron's girlfriend) becomes pregnant to both Josh and Aaron, that is with half-twin sons due to heteropaternal superfecundation and they all have to live with the consequences. Due to the untimely death of their Grandfather, Charlie, Aaron and Josh find themselves bidding against each other at a public auction for their shares of the family property. Elizabeth, Mother of Aaron and Josh, has their secret past outed to her sons. A financially over-committed Aaron is forced to sell his part of the property to Chinese investors. As the supreme irony, Josh becomes a resentful Aaron's boss. The 5 year old sons of Josh and Aaron act beyond their years to protect Tash from Aaron's excesses towards her. Aaron accepts that he has been the cause of much family conflict.
