Sinossi

This edition includes the following editor's introduction: G. K. Chesterton, the man beyond the writer

First published in 1905, “The Club of Queer Trades” is a collection of six amusing stories by English writer G. K. Chesterton.

Each story in the collection is centred on someone who is making his living by some novel and extraordinary means (a "queer trade", using the word "queer" in the sense of "strange"), a potential candidate for The Club of Queer Trades. To gain admittance one must have invented a unique means of earning a living and the subsequent trade being the main source of income.

The framing narrative by "Cherub" Swinburne describes his quest for The Club of Queer Trades with his friend Basil Grant, a retired judge, and Rupert Grant, a private detective who is Basil's younger brother. Each of the stories describes their encounter with people with an unique way of making a living, which makes them eligible for the select and secretive club.

A thriller that's got some humor—until it doesn't. Then it becomes your worst nightmare.
Elgin Thomas thought Vietnam would be his escape. Running from a troubled past and horrific nightmares that won't let him sleep, this unlikely hero finds himself deep in the heart of Vietnam's central highland district.
Thrust into a corrupt society consumed by chaos and injustice, Elgin discovers that war extracts a price steeper than he ever imagined. The combat is brutal. The choices are impossible. And the nightmares? They're just getting started.
During a clandestine mission in Cambodia's deadly killing fields, Elgin comes face-to-face with the dreaded Khmer Rouge. Confronted by his own mortality he faces an impossible choice: abandon his mission and flee, or stay and fight a battle he cannot win.
When Elgin is fatally wounded, a bad situation spirals into the unthinkable. What happens next defies explanation—a psychological thriller that transcends the boundaries between life and death, sanity and madness. This YA fantasy fiction with horror elements plunges readers into a bone-chilling depiction of war's realities and a horrifying glimpse into the afterlife, haunting you long after the final page.
Beyond Gehenna: Tour of Duty is the explosive first volume of a two-part series—a thriller in 2026 that grabs you from the opening line and doesn't let go. Part war story, part supernatural mystery, this rollercoaster ride barrels toward a surprise ending you won't see coming.
Perfect readers who devour psychological thriller books that blur the line between the living and the damned.
Fair warning: Not your typical war story, this is what happens when a soldier's battle doesn't end at death—it only gets darker.

George Birch, undertaker for the New England town of Peck Valley, finds himself trapped in the vault where coffins are stored during winter for burial in the spring. When Birch stacks the coffins to reach a transom window, his feet break through the lid of the top coffin, injuring his ankles and forcing him to crawl out of the vault. Later, Dr. Davis investigates the vault, and finds that the top coffin was one of inferior workmanship, which Birch used as a repository for Asaph Sawyer, a vindictive citizen whom Birch had disliked, even though the coffin had originally been built for the much shorter Matthew Fenner. Davis finds that Birch had cut off Sawyer's feet in order to fit the body into the coffin, and the wounds in Birch's ankles are actually teeth marks.

Gear up for a frightful jaunt into the darkest reaches of the ancient Appalachians.
Folks deep within the Appalachian hollers lean close to the campfire to share stories of the inexplicable with hushed awe. Monsters rumbling in the hills. Strange lights darting through the pitch-black night sky. Horrible occurrences, almost ineffable in their bizarre tragedy.
    "Tall tales," you might say.
Tell that to the Flatwoods monster in Braxton County, West Virginia. Or the Goat Man of Louisville—look into his humanoid eyes and let him know you don't believe. And what of those apparitions in Mammoth Cave's Corpse Rock, or the Satan-spawn known as the Jersey Devil that attacked a trolley car? How do you respond when confronted by these mysteries?
From metaphysical energy that swirls near the Serpent Mound in Ohio to Point Pleasant's Mothman legacy, Mark Muncy and Kari Schultz explore the dark history lurking in the shadows of Appalachia.
Ready by Mark Muncy, author and expert on the strange with appearances on shows such as Ancient Aliens, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Return of Robert the Doll, and more!

"There once was a lane, filled with well-tended lawns and well-fostered friendships, of well-appointed houses all neat and tidy and those that live within, of stories and mysteries that manifest for only fleeting moments for the few who pay attention. This is one such tale. A tale about pleasant people, about the lives they live, about their wants and dreams, about their loves and losses, their joys and hates, about their days and nights in the company of cherished companions in the houses they call home. In this tale of the happy little lives of blissful simple folk, there are monsters, to be sure. But this is not the story of monsters, this is not the tale of their evil deeds, this is the tale of those they make suffer. In this tale, the monsters have no names. The monsters do not deserve names."
A character driven slice-of-life story that follows the humble lives of the residents of a suburban neighborhood as they live and love, and about the house with the dead yard, a vacant lot, that sits among their homes, inert and immobile, yet intimidating and terrifying to any who look at it too long. The children of the lane are not the only ones who are fearful of the anomaly in their midst. Every adult upon the lane wonders why the structure still stands, with no known owner and no reason to be. The lingering question is not who owns the house, but why no one ever goes in or comes out, and why there are such ghastly noises emanating from within. Day by day, the happy people of the lane go about their tasks and trials, and day by day, the house with the dead yard seems a little more ominous, a little more intrusive, and a little less ignorable than before.

The Cthulhu Mythos of Henry Kuttner features a series of interconnected stories that explore the dark corners of the universe, where ancient gods and unspeakable horrors lurk just beyond the veil of reality. Among the tales included are The Secret of Kralitz, which unveils the chilling secrets of an ancient castle, and The Eater of Souls, where the boundaries between life and death blur in terrifying ways. Kuttner's masterful storytelling heightens the atmospheric tension of each narrative. This anthology not only pays homage to Lovecraft's legacy but also showcases Kuttner's unique voice and imagination, making it a must-read for fans of cosmic horror and those seeking to explore the depths of human fear and curiosity.
