Sinossi

In "Principia Ethica," G. E. Moore presents a groundbreaking analysis of ethical theory, arguing for the significance of the intrinsic 'good' as a fundamental aspect of reality. Published in 1903, this philosophical treatise is noted for its rigorous logical structure and innovative approach to moral philosophy. Moore challenges prevalent ethical theories of his time, introducing the famous "naturalistic fallacy" which posits that one cannot derive 'ought' from 'is,' thereby setting a new direction in the study of ethics. The clarity of Moore's prose coupled with his precise arguments marks a pivotal moment in 20th-century philosophy, influencing both analytic and normative ethics dramatically. G. E. Moore, an English philosopher and a key figure in the early analytic tradition, was heavily influenced by the intellectual currents of his time, including the challenges posed by utilitarianism. His academic background at Cambridge and his close relationships with contemporaries like Bertrand Russell profoundly impacted his philosophical inquiries. Moore's commitment to clarity and rigor in ethical discourse led him to delve into the complexities of moral language and the nature of good, placing his work at the forefront of ethical theory. "Principia Ethica" is essential reading for anyone interested in the foundations of moral philosophy. Its arguments about the nature of good and the structure of ethical reasoning continue to resonate in contemporary discussions, making this work not only a cornerstone of philosophical literature but also a vital text for students and scholars alike. Engage with Moore's insights to enrich your understanding of ethical principles and their implications in today'Äôs moral landscape.

Most bereavement materials are focused on the first year of the grieving experience. We have often been asked, "What do you have for after the first anniversary?" In response to this need, Doug Manning has written this book, Grief's Second Mile: Life Beyond the First Year.
Grief's Second Mile addresses some of the specific losses such as the death after extended illness, death of a child, suicide, violent or unresolved deaths, and why those may lengthen or stall the person's ability to approach the necessary transitions of grief in a healthy or complete manner. He provides insights and suggestions for developing ways to express feelings and cope with the loss and how to seek the help that is vital. Doug focuses on allowing the reader to feel "normal" in their search and to discover the answers that are right for them.
A valuable resource for those families who are struggling or would appreciate something that speaks to their grieving beyond the first year.

While many are familiar with those facts, and a recent movie revived interest in Alan Turing’s achievements with computing during World War II, it was Charles Babbage who was the first to conceive the notion of a programmable and automatic universal computer, which, on top of its ability to calculate any mathematical equation at an unmatched speed, could also be used for a seemingly infinite number of other applications. In other words, he envisioned the precursor to the modern computer.
At first blush, Babbage hardly seemed the type, because in many ways, Babbage was the antithesis of the debonair, silver-tongued, and effortlessly charismatic CEOs of present-day tech giants. Babbage was a quirky individual to say the least. He was highly observant, but was in the same breath a habitual daydreamer, often caught in a trance of deep thought.  Indeed, his unquenchable thirst for knowledge and his brilliant mind were unparalleled, but this was paired with his restless, addictive, and extreme nature, as well as his obsession with precision and factual accuracy.
Working with Babbage was certainly an unusual path for any woman, but Ada Lovelace managed to do so before an incredibly premature death. Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace, died in 1852 at the age of 36, but during her short and tumultuous life, she was one of the first to recognize that computers could do far more than complex calculations. This was all the more surprising given that, during her life, no computers existed, and her ideas were based on an implicit understanding of the theoretical work of Charles Babbage, who himself is today recognized as the “Father of the Computer.” What makes her work truly startling is that she did this more than 100 years before the first computer had even been created. But Ada Lovelace was a woman, and in Victorian England, her work was generally either ignored or disparaged.

A Brief Manifesto on South American Identity
Have you ever wondered why seas around the world have names... but South America doesn't?
Amid forgotten maps, hushed histories and ignored identities, a disturbing question echoes through the waters of the South Atlantic. This is not just an e-book — it is an invitation to reflect on culture, memory and belonging.
This e-book is not intended to generalize in an attacking way, but rather to shed light on what has been hidden over the centuries — and which, in a certain way, continues to be silenced.
A deep analysis of the role of the sea in the formation of South American identity and integration. History, culture and politics connected by water.
