  In January 1951, Lieutenant Evgeniy Borisov was sent to the headquarters of the Soviet 5th Army in Spassk-Dalnii, a small city in the Russian Far East. Borisov was there on a secret mission. Together with his superior, Major Rusinov, his job was to establish the 91st Special Forces Company. The 91st was to be one of forty-six similar units spread out across the Soviet Union. The new forces were called "spetsnaz"—short for spetsnialnoe naznachenie, which translates to "special purpose." 
   
   
   
  In Spetsnaz, Tor Bukkvoll presents the first in-depth history of the Soviet, and, later, Russian special operations forces from their establishment until today. He focuses on three broad topics: Soviet and later Russian thinking on the use of special operations forces; the actual process of constructing these forces and how this was facilitated or hampered by other agencies of the Soviet and Russian states; and the use of these forces in combat. Bukkvoll uses a variety of sources, but the most important are the recollections of former spetsnaz soldiers and officers themselves, which allow Bukkvoll to present the history of these forces as the men of spetsnaz see and have seen it. Bukkvoll also draws upon observations and judgments from other parts of the Soviet and Russian militaries, from a number of KGB sources, and from independent Russian experts and journalists.

The preservation of the body was considered essential for the soul’s journey, as it would serve as a vessel for the soul's return. This chapter delves into the origins and purpose of mummification, shedding light on the techniques that evolved over millennia. 
  The practice of mummification is believed to have begun around 3500 BCE, initially as a natural process. Early Egyptians buried their dead in shallow graves in the hot, dry desert sands. The dry conditions naturally desiccated the bodies, preserving them for years or even centuries. However, as Egyptian society developed and religious beliefs became more complex, the need for a more deliberate and refined method of preservation emerged. Over time, the Egyptians developed techniques to prevent decomposition, ensuring that the deceased would be preserved for the afterlife. 
  Mummification’s primary purpose was to ensure the deceased’s body remained intact for the soul’s journey to the afterlife. Ancient Egyptians believed that the body was necessary for the soul to recognize and reunite with the deceased in the next world. The process, therefore, was not just about keeping the body intact; it was about ensuring the deceased's spiritual well-being. Alongside the physical mummification process, elaborate burial rituals were performed, including the offering of food, goods, and prayers to help guide the deceased through the afterlife.

  Are you having trouble fostering healthy relationships? 
  Are you stressed, feeling drained and exhausted from giving too much in your relationships? 
  Do you know who you are? What you need? What you like? Or do you feel that you need to be validated and approved by a partner (or any other person) to feel good about yourself? 
  Codependency is notoriously difficult to combat because there is no precise definition of the disorder. The signs and symptoms also differ for everyone. It is often mistaken for narcissism or other personality disorders that do not reflect the true situation. 
  People who suffer from this disorder tend to mask what they really feel. At other times, they are not even aware of what they are doing. This only serves to cloud the overall picture by delaying positive interventions, which, sometimes will never come. 
  I RECOMMEND THAT YOU READ THIS BOOK IF: 
  • You are not aware of how you truly feel. 
  • You have difficulty identifying your feelings. 
  • You have difficulty expressing your feelings. 
  • You tend to minimize, modify or even deny the reality of what you feel. 
  • You tend to worry and/or fear how others may respond to how you feel. 
  • You give power over your feelings to others. 
  Act now before it's too late 
  If a codependent denies his destructive behavior, he can pass it on to his children. If the child does not realise the behavioural model of the parents, and its negative impact, it will generate the same patterns as an adult. An endless cycle can be established. 
  Commit to breaking this cycle and regain control of your life.
