Synopsis

The German socialist Friedrich Engels first developed an interest in the philosophy of G. W. F. Hegel, prior to forming a permanent partnership with Karl Marx to promote the socialist movement. After persuading the second Communist Congress to adopt their views, the two friends drafted the ‘Communist Manifesto’ of 1848. After Marx’s death in 1883, Engels was the foremost authority on Marx and Marxism. He produced wide-ranging works of his own, including philosophical writings on materialism, idealism and dialectics. His important work helped supply Marxism with an ontological and metaphysical foundation. This eBook presents Engels’ collected works, with numerous illustrations, rare texts, informative introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material. (Version 1)

"The Theory of Moral Sentiments" is a book written by Adam Smith, a Scottish philosopher and economist who lived from 1723 to 1790. First published in 1759, the book is considered one of the most important works in the field of moral philosophy.
In the book, Smith explores the nature of morality and the role of sympathy and empathy in human interactions. He argues that human beings are naturally inclined to feel sympathy for others, and that this sympathy forms the basis of moral judgments. He also discusses the concept of the "impartial spectator," an imagined observer who helps us to judge the morality of our own actions.
Smith's ideas in "The Theory of Moral Sentiments" have had a profound impact on fields beyond moral philosophy, including economics and political theory. In his later work, "The Wealth of Nations," Smith developed his ideas on the nature of markets and the division of labor, which have become foundational concepts in modern economics.
Overall, "The Theory of Moral Sentiments" is a key work in the development of Western moral philosophy, and is still widely studied and debated today.

"Transactional Analysis in Psychotherapy" by Eric Berne is a seminal text that delves into the intricacies of human interaction and communication through the lens of transactional analysis (TA). Published in 1961, this book presents TA not just as a theory but as a practical method of therapy, offering insights into the dynamics of human behavior. Berne introduces concepts such as ego states, which categorize communication and behavior into parent-like, child-like, or adult-like forms, and "strokes," which are units of interpersonal recognition. He explores the structuring of time and the concept of life scripts—unconscious life plans adopted under parental influence. Berne's work is foundational in the field of psychotherapy, providing tools for understanding the complexities of human relationships and the mechanisms of communication, making it an essential read for professionals in psychology and psychotherapy, as well as anyone interested in the deeper understanding of social interactions.
