Sinossi

In "Fairview Boys and Their Rivals; or, Bob Bouncer's Schooldays," Frederick Gordon crafts a compelling narrative that explores the camaraderie and rivalries of schoolboy life in the late 19th century. The novel is steeped in the traditions of boys' literature, marked by its spirited dialogue and vivid depictions of school life. Gordon employs a vivid, accessible prose style, inviting readers into the adventures and challenges faced by young boys at Fairview School, while also delving into the moral dilemmas and lessons of loyalty and friendship that underpin their experiences. This novel puts the reader in the midst of a richly imagined world, resonating with both humor and gravity, and highlighting the quintessential themes of growth and identity during formative years. Frederick Gordon, a lesser-known yet significant figure in the realm of children's literature, drew inspiration from his own experiences as a schoolboy. His keen observations of adolescent dynamics and societal norms of the time influenced his storytelling, allowing him to capture authentic emotions and relationships among young boys. Gordon'Äôs work reflects an understanding of the societal pressures and joys that define youth, contributing to his vibrant characterizations and engaging plots. "Fairview Boys and Their Rivals" is not just a nostalgic reflection on boyhood but also an incisive exploration of the trials of growing up. Readers'Äîboth young and old'Äîwill find themselves captivated by its relatable characters and timeless themes. Ideal for those interested in classic children's literature, this novel offers a delightful journey into the complexities of friendship and rivalry, making it a must-read for anyone enchanted by the trials and triumphs of youth.

Grimms' Fairy Tales, originally known as the Children's and Household Tales (German: Kinder- und Hausmärchen), is a German collection of fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm, first published on 20 December 1812. Vol. 1 of the first edition contained 86 stories, which were followed by 70 more tales, numbered consecutively, in the 1st edition, Vol. 2, in 1815. By the seventh edition in 1857, the corpus of tales had expanded to 200 tales and 10 "Children's Legends". It is listed by UNESCO in its Memory of the World Registry.Origin:Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were two of ten children from Dorothea (née Zimmer) and Philipp Wilhelm Grimm. Philipp was a highly regarded district magistrate in Steinau an der Straße, about 50 kilometres (31 mi) from Hanau. Jacob and Wilhelm were sent to school for a classical education once they were of age, while their father was working. They were very hard-working pupils throughout their education. They followed in their father's footsteps and started to pursue a degree in law, and German history. In 1796, their father died at the age of 44 from pneumonia. This was a tragic time for the Grimms because the family lost all financial support and relied on their aunt, Henriette Zimmer, and grandfather, Johann Hermann Zimmer. At the age of 11, Jacob was compelled to be head of the household and provide for his family. After downsizing their home because of financial reasons, Henriette sent Jacob and Wilhelm to study at the prestigious high school, Lyzeum, in Kassel. In school, their grandfather wrote to them saying that because of their current situation, they needed to apply themselves industriously to secure their future welfare.
