Thanks to smartphones, war is everywhere, all the time. Anyone can view, analyze, and comment on photos, videos, or other warzone media. Where did this technology come from? And what does it mean for the future of war? This book explains why you see what you do on your phone, and how these devices shape our knowledge, conduct, and representation of war in the 2020s. It shows why smartphones are indispensable in peace and wartime: every device is a potential weapon, lines blur between war and daily life, and conflict becomes a shared digital experience. Social media platforms displace state-controlled narratives, amplifying violence and shaping war's legitimacy. Apps democratize conflict, enabling anyone to identify and attack perceived enemies. As the Ukraine war has shown, this new reality involves complex, unevenly distributed infrastructures, merging civilian communication with military targeting. With war accelerating beyond our comprehension, militaries have raced to benefit from and adapt to the smartphone age. Matthew Ford explores critical questions about today's hyper-connected battlefield.

This book is about freedom and the right to have an opinion. A concept that has been fought over for centuries. Whilst we think of Australia as being a free society, You Can't Say That! challenges this notion, arguing that the freedoms all Australians once enjoyed have been systematically eroded over last few decades, and how, as a nation, we must fight to get them back.Let this book guide you to a place where you ask: • Who are my masters? • How much do I desire to fit into the current trend of "progressive" thought and "woke" ideas which are fast becoming societal norms? • How far am I willing to go to accept the current trends of collectivism, conformity, hypocrisy and cancel culture? The Purpose of You Can't Say That! is to encourage discussion and debate in the current stifling politically correct environment, as well as providing a platform for those fighting to gain back their basic rights for freedom of speech. If you are tired of the opinions of elitist bullies telling you what you must say and think, taking over all debates in the mainstream media and within our institutions, then you can read this book and feel empowered that you in fact CAN say that.

A new model of executive functioning which illuminates the somatic, social, and emotional influences on how we make decisions.

Executive functioning (EF) can be defined as a person's ability to successfully navigate their physical, intellectual, and social worlds. Interest in EF is expanding within psychotherapy, but like many scientific concepts which are adapted to the consulting room, there is a great deal of confusion and misinformation surrounding EF within clinical and lay communities.

In this book, Louis Cozolino—a master of translating complex neuroscientific concepts into digestible, applicable literature for therapists and laypeople alike—is joined by experts Chloe Drulis and Carly Trissler to illuminate how our brains and minds successfully navigate the challenges of day—to—day life. The book offers a new, neurodynamic model of EF that explains the three main executive systems in the brain and the specific ways that they influence how we think, focus, and solve problems. This neurobiological framework highlights the interconnectedness of cognition, emotion, and relationships, providing readers with a deeper understanding of how humans function and strategies to improve outcomes in therapy, parenting, executive coaching, and personal development.

The importance of Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus (or as he was known from birth, Gaius Octavius “Octavian” Thurinus) to the course of Western history is hard to overstate. His life, his rise to power, his political, and his social and military achievements all laid the foundations for the creation of an empire which would endure for almost five centuries, and whose traditions, laws, architecture and art continue to influence much of Europe and the world today. Octavian was the first true Roman Emperor, and the first man since the Etruscan Tarquins five centuries earlier to establish a successful hereditary ruling dynasty in what had been a proud Republic for over half a millennium. He was a canny strategist, an excellent orator, a fine writer, a generous patron of the arts and enthusiastic promoter of public works, but above all he was a master politician. Octavian’s great-uncle (and adoptive father) Julius Caesar was a great general, and his rival Mark Antony was a great soldier, but as a politician Octavian outmatched them all. He still stands in bronze on Rome’s Via dei Fori Imperiali to this day, along with the likes of Caesar, Hadrian, Trajan and Marcus Aurelius, and he is forever immortalized in all Western calendars as the patron of the month of August, which was dedicated to him when he was deified, following his death, as Divus Augustus.
“The Five Good Emperors,” a reference to the five emperors who ruled the Roman Empire between 96 and 180 CE (Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius, and Marcus Aurelius), was a term first coined by Machiavelli and later adopted and popularized by historian Edward Gibbon, who said that under these men, the Roman Empire “was governed by absolute power under the guidance of wisdom and virtue.” This period of 84 years is generally regarded as the high point of the Roman Empire, at least after Augustus.
