Sinossi

"If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden."

When the sour and neglected Mary Lennox is sent from India to live in her uncle's gloomy mansion on the Yorkshire moors, she finds a world of silence and secrets. But the moor holds a mystery: a walled garden, locked away for ten years, its key buried and forgotten. With the help of the spirited Dickon and her hidden cousin Colin, Mary discovers that as she tends to the withered roses, her own heart begins to bloom. This is a story of how the "Magic" of the natural world can mend broken spirits and turn a house of shadows into a home of light.

The Art of Becoming: The Secret Garden is a profound exploration of character growth. Mary Lennox begins as one of literature's most unlikable heroines—spoiled, "contrary," and yellow-skinned—only to be transformed by manual labor, fresh air, and friendship. Through the characters of Colin and Mary, Burnett illustrates her belief in the connection between physical health and a positive mind, making it a pioneering work of psychological resilience.

A Celebration of the Wild: The Yorkshire moor itself is a living character in the book—vast, windy, and untamed. It stands in stark contrast to the stifling atmosphere of Mary's life in India and the locked rooms of the manor. Burnett's vivid prose captures the sensory experience of the changing seasons, from the first grey mist of spring to the lush, hidden paradise of summer.

Unlock the door to a world of wonder. Purchase "The Secret Garden" today and witness the magic of growth.

John Griffith Chaney was born on January 12th, 1876 in San Francisco.
His father, William Chaney, was living with Flora Wellman when she became pregnant. Chaney insisted she have an abortion. Flora's response was to turn a gun on herself. Although her wounds were not severe the trauma made her temporarily deranged.
In late 1876 his mother married John London and the young child was brought to live with them as they moved around the Bay area, eventually settling in Oakland where now, calling himself Jack, he completed grade school.
Jack worked hard at several jobs, sometimes 12-18 hours a day, but his dream was university. He studied hard and borrowed the money to enrol in the summer of 1896 at the University of California in Berkeley.
In 1897, at 21, Jack searched out newspaper accounts of his mother's suicide attempt and for the name of his biological father. He wrote to Chaney, then living in Chicago, who claimed he could not be Jack’s father because he was impotent and casually asserted that London's mother had relations with other men. Jack, devastated by the response, quit Berkeley and went to the Klondike. Other accounts suggest that his dire finances presented Jack with the excuse he needed to leave.
In the Klondike Jack began to gather material for his writing but also accumulated many health problems, including scurvy, which together with hip and leg problems he would carry for the rest of his life.
During the late 1890's Jack was regularly publishing short stories and by the turn of the century full blown novels.
By 1904 Jack had married, fathered two children and was now in the process of divorcing. A stint as a reporter on the Russo-Japanese war of 1904 was equal amounts trouble and experience. But that experience was always put to good use in a continuing and remarkable output of work.
In 1905 he married Charmian Kittredge who at last was a soul and companion who brought him some semblance of peace despite his advancing alcoholism and his incurable wanderlust.
Twelve years later Jack had amassed both wealth and a literary reputation through such classics as ‘The Call of the Wild’, ‘White Fang’ and many others. He had a reputation as a social activist and was a tireless friend of the workers.
Jack London died suffering from dysentery, late-stage alcoholism and uremia, aged only 40, on November 22nd 1916 at his property in Glen Elen in California.

'Yes, I know genius when I meet it. I may not like it—but I recognize it.'

First published in 1930 under the pseudonym 'Mary Westmacott', Giant's Bread shows a young Agatha Christie establishing herself as one of the finest writers of her day.

Emotionally charged and a novel which sweeps generations, Giant's Bread tells a tale of genius, obsession and unruly ambition. Following the life and career of Vernon Deyre – an extraordinary and brilliant musician – from childhood to fame, Christie explores love, betrayal and the sacrifices demanded by art itself. Set against the backdrop of a vividly drawn interwar Europe, Vernon learns that, despite his talents, there is a high price to pay for writing the masterpiece of his life. A crucial decision needs to be made before he risks losing it all… but what is the right path? Atmospheric and profoundly human, Giant's Bread reveals a side to Christie far removed from her murder mysteries – but remains nonetheless as thrilling.
Agatha Christie (1890 – 1976) was an English author. She was a prolific writer, most famous for her detective novels and short story collections which centred around the iconic characters of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Renowned as the 'Queen of Crime', she remains the bestselling novelist of all time, with her sales only second to the Bible.
