Sinossi

Frances Burney's "The Greatest Works of Frances Burney (Illustrated)" presents a comprehensive anthology of her most significant writings, encapsulating the wit, social commentary, and narrative innovation that define her literary prowess. This illustrated edition enriches the reader's experience, offering visual elements that complement her keen observations of 18th-century society. Burney's works, including the seminal novels "Evelina" and "Cecilia," employ an epistolary style and a keen sense of character development, effectively bridging the gap between the rigid structures of 18th-century literature and the emerging Romantic voice. Her incisive critiques of gender roles and social hierarchies establish her as a pivotal figure in feminist literature and novelistic form. Born to a family of theatrical and literary significance, Frances Burney'Äôs exposure to the arts and discourse on social realities greatly influenced her writing. As a courtier to Queen Charlotte, she became acutely aware of the complexities of court life, class, and femininity, which permeate her works. Burney's experiences not only shaped her narratives but also infused them with authenticity, making her an essential chronicler of her time. "The Greatest Works of Frances Burney (Illustrated)" is highly recommended for readers seeking both entertainment and insight into the societal nuances of the 18th century. This collection is not just a celebration of her literary genius, but also a vital resource for those interested in the evolution of the novel and the female voice in literature.

This is the true story of how an ‘Average Joe’ found success and then became a victim of that success.
One among ten children, the author, Mohandas enjoys a happy childhood in the heart of a loving family, but finds himself ill-prepared when he is propelled out of the cocoon into a world where earning is key and results are everything. Mohandas lands his first job in seafood exports and takes to it like a fish to water. These are the days of the Licence Raj and soon Mohandas is scrambling to woo buyers, dodge competition and untangle red tape.
How this cocooned ‘caterpillar’ turns to be a free-flying, confident ‘butterfly’, flying in the face of all odds makes up the rest of this story, dotted with colourful anecdotes, playful romance and heartwarming family ties.
If success and failure are two sides of a coin, the coin flips this way and that in the author’s life proving the interesting premise that ‘Success beyond a measure is a recipe for Failure’. A compelling inspiring and authentic memoir of how to get back on your feet when life knocks you down…again and again.

In the early 70s a drugged-out seventeen-year-old named Doug, along with his secretly gay, openly black, best friend, decides to hitchhike across the country in search of a mythical Utopia. They meet Bologna Jane & Tina the Monkey Girl, Big Arm and Nigga Dog. They almost die along the way. Doug hooks up with his brother and friends on converted school bus. They harvest huge bags of really weak marijuana, thanks to a couple of Redneck Hippies, and try to sell it. Along the way, Doug winds up getting his ribs and heart broken.
Sick of hitchhiking and hunger, Doug decides it is time to get rich. He gets sucked into the inside world of the famous Glenn W. Turner and his get-rich-quick scheme: Koscot Interplanetary, Incorporated. Doug cuts his hair, buys a suite and tie, and along with a bunch of Disney World rejects, spends his days trying to convince strangers to give him a $5000 so he can make them rich. Then he changes into his real clothes and spends his nights begging strangers to give him a buck so he can eat.
His failure to become a good salesman or panhandler leads him to a group of friendly Satan-worshiping heroin addicts who believe that in the end of time, Jesus will forgive Satan, who will then resume his place as the greatest Angel in all of Heaven.
This is a completely true story. Proof exists in the form of letters, interviews, memorabilia and historical evidence. Besides, nobody could make this up.
