  Obfuscation is the deliberate act of making information unclear, ambiguous, or misleading to obscure the truth. Whether through complex language, excessive detail, or intentional vagueness, obfuscation serves to manipulate perceptions, control narratives, and, in many cases, maintain power. Understanding how and why obfuscation is used is essential to identifying and countering its effects in a world where misinformation and deception are widespread. 
  Throughout history, obfuscation has played a critical role in shaping societies. Governments have used it to control populations, corporations to shield questionable practices, and individuals to navigate social interactions. In politics, leaders often employ ambiguous language in speeches and policies, leaving room for multiple interpretations and avoiding accountability. Businesses use complex legal terms in contracts to obscure hidden fees or unfavorable clauses. Even in science and technology, obfuscation can be found in manipulated research data or complex algorithmic systems that hide biases. 
  One of the most common techniques of obfuscation is the use of technical jargon and complexity. Specialized terminology, while necessary in professional fields, can be used to confuse outsiders and prevent scrutiny. Legal documents, financial statements, and medical reports often contain dense language that makes it difficult for the average person to understand crucial information. This deliberate complexity benefits those in power while keeping the public uninformed.

  It would be hard if not outright impossible to overstate the impact Roman Emperor Constantine I had on the history of Christianity, ancient Rome, and Europe as a whole. Best known as Constantine the Great, the kind of moniker only earned by rulers who have distinguished themselves in battle and conquest, Constantine remains an influential and controversial figure to this day. He achieved enduring fame by being the first Roman emperor to personally convert to Christianity, and for his notorious Edict of Milan, the imperial decree which legalized the worship of Christ and promoted religious freedom throughout the Empire. More than 1500 years after Constantine’s death, Abdu'l-Bahá, the head of the Bahá'í Faith, wrote, “His blessed name shines out across the dawn of history like the morning star, and his rank and fame among the world's noblest and most highly civilized is still on the tongues of Christians of all denominations” 
  	However, it can be argued that despite his military successes – the most notable of which occurred fighting for supremacy against other Romans – Constantine may well have set the stage for the ultimate collapse of the Roman Empire as it had existed up until that point. It was Constantine who first decided that Rome, exposed and vulnerable near the gathering masses of barbarians moving into Germania and Gaul, was a strategically unsafe base for the Empire, and thus expanded the city of New Rome on the Dardanelles straits, creating what eventually became Constantinople. By moving the political, administrative and military capital of the Empire from Rome to the East, as well as the Imperial court with all its attendant followers, Constantine laid the groundwork for the eventual schism which saw the two parts of the Roman Empire become two entirely separate entities, go their own way, and eventually collapse piecemeal under repeated waves of invasion.

  The story of Philadelphia's only Medal of Honor recipient from the Vietnam War told here for the first timeMichael Crescenz grew up in one of Philadelphia’s booming post-war Catholic neighborhoods, distinguishing himself early on as a leader, brother and friend who fearlessly rose to the defense of others in need. The second of six sons born to a World War II veteran, Michael was known for his big smile, athletic abilities, toughness and fierce competitive spirit. Growing up, Michael’s world revolved around his family, parish, local playgrounds, and the bustling Catholic schools he attended from first grade through high school graduation. All these influences shaped the man he would become – the one who felt a sense of duty to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army to do his part during the Vietnam War.   He was in Vietnam barely two months when his unit, the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry, was sent into battle against deeply entrenched enemy forces on Nui Chom Mountain, the fortress in the clouds tucked away in the far northwest corner of South Vietnam near the borders with North Vietnam and Laos. Commanders knew they were in for a fight, but didn’t know the enemy had more than 250 machine gun bunkers deployed along the mountain’s slopes. On November 20, 1968, Alpha Company was ambushed on the wet jungle mountainside, the NVA taking down the two men up front and pinning down the rest with relentless fire.  Thinking first of the danger to those around him, Private First Class Michael J. Crescenz picked up an M60 machine gun and charged the enemy bunkers. He did not survive but his actions saved the lives of his fellow soldiers and allowed them to advance and ultimately prevail. For his valor and sacrifice, Michael was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.  No Greater Love tells this story from the perspective of those who loved Michael Crescenz most, close friends, family, Michael’s commanding officer in Vietnam, retired Lieutenant General Sam Wetzel, and medic William “Doc” Stafford, the soldier closest to Michael when he was cut down by enemy fire and who believes to this day that he survived Nui Chom only because of the selfless actions of Private First Class Crescenz.
