Sinossi

Sahara Trade explores how the Sahara Desert, often seen as an impassable barrier, became a vital artery of commerce and cultural exchange in African history. It details the rise of the trans-Saharan trade, emphasizing the exchange of essential commodities like salt and gold. Understanding this network is key to grasping the economic, social, and political evolution of pre-colonial Africa and its interactions globally.

The book examines how the trade spurred the growth of empires and the spread of ideas, profoundly influencing West Africa and the Mediterranean region. The book reveals that the trans-Saharan trade was more than a simple exchange of goods; it was a catalyst for cultural exchange and the formation of empires. Consider, for instance, the pivotal role of Berber and Arab merchants in establishing and maintaining caravan routes. Also crucial were the logistical innovations, particularly the use of camels, which enabled long-distance travel and trade across the harsh desert.

The book progresses chapter by chapter, establishing the geographical context, examining key commodities, detailing the roles of merchants, and analyzing the trade's impact on empires like Ghana, Mali, and Songhai. Sahara Trade offers a comprehensive look at this historical phenomenon by integrating diverse sources, including historical accounts, archaeological finds, and anthropological studies. It presents a holistic view of the interplay between environmental factors, social structures, and economic forces that shaped this trade network.

The book's focus on the period from the 8th to the 16th centuries, when the trans-Saharan trade peaked, provides valuable insights into the interconnectedness of societies and the enduring legacy of ancient trade routes.

The history of the tablets translated in the following pages is strange and beyond modern scientists' comprehension. Their age is astounding, dating back 36,000 years B.C. Thoth is an Atlantean Priest-King who established a colony in ancient Egypt after the mother country was sunk. He was the builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which has been incorrectly attributed to Cheops. He included his knowledge of ancient wisdom as well as securely hidden records and instruments from ancient Atlantis.
From approximately 50,000 B.C. to 36.000 B.C., he ruled the ancient race of Egypt for approximately 16,000 years. The ancient barbarous race among which he and his followers had settled had advanced to a high level of civilization at the time. Thoth was immortal, that is, he had defeated death, passing only when he wished and not through death. His vast knowledge elevated him to the throne of the various Atlantean colonies, including those in South and Central America.
When the time came for him to leave Egypt, he built the Great Pyramid over the entrance to the Great Halls of Amenti, placed his records inside, and appointed guards from among the highest of his people to guard his secrets. The descendants of these guards later became the pyramid priests, through whom Thoth was deified as the God of Wisdom, The Recorder, by those living in the age of darkness that followed his death. The halls of Amenti were transformed into the underworld, the Halls of the Gods, where the soul passed after death for judgment.
The ego of Thoth passed into the bodies of men in later ages, as described in the tablets. As a result, he incarnated three times, the last time as Hermes, the thrice-born. In this incarnation, he left the Emerald Tablets, a later and far less complete exposition of the ancient mysteries.

A New Statesman ‘most anticipated title of the year’
    ‘Compelling.’ David Lammy MP
    ‘Refreshing,’ Pragya Agarwal
A powerful intervention roundly debunking the myth of progress in racial equality — particularly in the workplace — and offering a blueprint for the future.
Have you ever wondered why, as Britain becomes more diverse, so many of our leaders come from the same narrow pool? Can it be acceptable in 2023 that there are no ethnic minority chief constables, only one CEO in the top 50 NHS Trusts and no permanent secretaries in the civil service?
Nazir Afzal knows what it’s like to break the glass ceiling, challenge prejudice and shake up predominantly white institutions. Born in Birmingham to first generation Pakistani immigrants, he was the first Muslim to be appointed as a Chief Crown Prosecutor and the most senior Muslim lawyer in the Crown Prosecution Service.
His insights into the UK’s relationship with race and power have driven him to demand answers to an age old question around Britain’s diversity failings: why does ethnic minority talent continue to be side-lined? Deploying bristling polemic and presenting an ambitious blueprint to unlock Britain’s hidden potential, this book hears from high-profile ethnic minority leaders to discover the hurdles they had to overcome and what changes are needed to make a difference.
Containing interviews with leaders across all sectors, Nazir provides the most detailed examination to date of the prejudice holding our leading institutions and industries back. In doing so it forcefully confronts stale leadership orthodoxies and argues that power in Britain does not have to look exactly the same as it always has done. It’s time to welcome the new wave of diverse leadership talent that Britain is crying out for
In his best-selling autobiography, Afzal presents a compelling case for the need to break down the barriers of discrimination and prejudice. His insights into the cultural and social dynamics of Britain's institutions offer a blueprint for a more diverse and inclusive leadership.

James Maley, George Watters, Donald Renton and Archibald Williams were members of Machine Gun Company No. 2 of the XV International Brigade. This is the first book to focus on a small group of men from different starting-points, ended up in the same battleground at Jarama, and then in the same prisons after capture by Franco's forces.
Their remarkable story is told both in their own words and in the recollections of their sons and daughters, through a prison notebook, newspaper reports, stills cut from newsreels, interviews, anecdotes and memories, with a foreword by Daniel Gray.
Our Fathers Fought Franco is a collective biography that promises to add significantly to the understanding of the motives of those who 'went because their open eyes could see no other way'.
