Sinossi

It was no small act of heroism to which the boy made up his mind in those few moments. Those were lawless days, and human life was held very cheap. The band of fierce men who had believed they were carrying off a prince, would think nothing of running him through with their swords when they discovered how they had been tricked, and that by a mere child. Paul set his teeth hard and braced himself up for the task he had set himself. He knew his peril he realized it too; but he was a soldier's son, and had he not said he would live and die for the prince? Would he ever be worthy of the knighthood every lad looked forward to as the goal of his ambition, if he shrank now from the task he had set himself? Hardly had that resolution been taken before there sprang out from the thick underwood two or three fierce-looking men, armed to the teeth.

"Little Bun Rabbit" is the twenty-second and final tale in L. Frank Baum's 1897 collection Mother Goose in Prose.
Dorothy is a farm girl who is allowed to roam the local meadows and woods and play to her heart's content. She has the rare ability to understand and speak the language of the animals. The kind-hearted child makes friends with Bun Rabbit, and learns about his life and experiences. Bun Rabbit once modeled for Santa Claus, so that Santa could make stuffed bunnies for "the babies" to play with. The rabbit had traveled with Santa to his castle at the North Pole, and stayed for several days to admire Santa's craftsmanship. While there, the bunny was fed clover, turnips, and sliced cabbage by old Mother Hubbard, who keeps house (or castle) for Santa. The toy bunnies Santa created in Bun Rabbit's likeness were so accurate that Bun almost mistook one for a live creature.
Bun Rabbit chose to walk home from the North Pole, to see the countryside; Santa equipped him with a magic collar that kept the rabbit from harm. The collar melted away and disappeared once Bun Rabbit reached home.

Jane Macrae is a Guardian, a member of the magically gifted families who quietly use their talents to aid humankind.  During the darkest days of WWII, Jane's abilities make her invaluable to British military intelligence.  But when a powerful instinct sends her home to Scotland, she doesn't expect to be sought out by a wild-eyed Canadian RAF pilot in desperate need of her help.
For Wing Commander David Sinclair, fighting the Battle of Britain is challenge enough.  Becoming Warden of the Grail when he visits his ancestral home in Scotland is way, way outside his experience.  Then his newly discovered powers lead him to a cool-eyed Scottish beauty who must become his partner in retrieving a stolen mystical treasure that could bring victory to the Nazis and destroy Britain forever.
Only if they survive might there be time enough for love….

    About the Author:
New York Times bestselling author Mary Jo Putney was born in Upstate New York with a reading addiction, a condition with no known cure.  Her entire writing career is an accidental byproduct of buying a computer for other purposes.  Most of her books contain history, romance, and cats.  She has had eleven RWA RITA nominations, two RITA wins, RWA's 2013 Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award, and she's so distractible that she’s amazed that she ever finishes a book.

Adeline Virginia Woolf was born on the 25th January 1882 in South Kensington in London.

Although lauded as a founder of modernist writing with such classics as ‘Orlando’, ‘Mrs Dalloway’ and ‘To the Lighthouse’ and, of course, many classic short stories, her background is filled with elements of tragedy that she somehow overcame to become such a revered writer. Her mother died when she was 13, her half-sister Stella two years later and with it her first of several nervous breakdowns. Appallingly it was later found that three of her half-brothers had sexually abused her so darkness must have seemed ever present.

She began writing professionally at age 20 but her father’s death two years later brought a complete mental collapse, and she was briefly institutionalised. Somehow, she found within herself a literary career and with it great innovations in writing; she was a pioneer of “stream of consciousness”.

Her tight circle of friends were the founders of the Bloomsbury Group, a movement whose legacy still influences across the arts and society in many ways to this day.

Whilst the dark periods continued to interrupt her emotional state her rate of work never ceased. Until on 28th March 1941, Woolf put on her overcoat, filled up its pockets with stones, and walked into the River Ouse, in Lewes, East Sussex and drowned herself. Her body was not recovered until the 18th April. She was 59.

She left behind a note which read in part:―“Dearest, I feel certain that I am going mad again. I feel we can't go through another of those terrible times. And I shan't recover this time. I begin to hear voices, and I can't concentrate. So I am doing what seems the best thing to do”.

Stella Benson was born on the 6th January 1892 in Easthope, Shropshire to parents who were landed gentry.

Her early years involved frequent household moves which was difficult for the child as she suffered from ill-health. Some of her early education was spent at schools in Germany and Switzerland and by 10 she had developed a lifelong habit of keeping a diary.

In the following years her parents separated, and she rarely saw her father. When she did, he encouraged to pause her writing until she had further experience and could better make sense of the world. When he died, she learned he had been an alcoholic.

A winter spent in the West Indies provided material for her first novel ‘I Pose’ published the following year in 1915.

During the War years she became involved in the women's suffrage movement and dedicated time outside of writing to support the troops and help the poor.

In 1918 she decided to travel spending much time in California, where she also tutored at the University of California, and continued to write. In China she met her future husband and after marrying in London, journeyed with him to his various Custom postings through Nanning, Beihai, and Hong Kong and the Far East.

The works continued to flow novels, short stories, travel essays all helped to build a deserved and burgeoning reputation.

Although her works are now in the forgotten and neglected department her writing style, characters, and narratives more than capably demonstrate her obvious talents.

Stella Benson died of pneumonia on the 7th December 1933, at Hạ Long in the Vietnamese province of Tonkin. She was 40.
